Three grenades, ammunition seized in Imphal

Mizoram Police seized three Chinese-made grenades and ammunition from a farm house near Aizawl on Tuesday, police said. The announcement was made late as police expected that more contraband was concealed in the farmhouse belonging to Rohmingliana, who was arrested.Earlier, police has seized 31 AK-47 assault rifles, and ammunition from the same farm on March 7 and 8. Three persons belonging to a faction of Bangladesh's Shanti Bahini (PCJSS) were arrested in this connection. They intended to take the arms across the border to Bangladesh for the use of their cadres.Mizoram shares borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh and the state has been one of the major conduits for arms smugglers and drug traffickers for years. The state's close proximity with Cox's Bazar has also also made it vulnerable and strategic as NE insurgents, who procured arms from Bangladesh and Myanmar, used to cross the state while taking the contraband to Manipur, Nagaland or Assam.
