Ruckus over fee payment at Lohia hospital

Chaos prevailed at Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences after delay in handing over the body of a patient to relatives due to alleged non-payment of fees. Hospital sources told TOI that the incident took place at around 4pm when kin of a patient alleged that despite admitting him to the general ward, the hospital had demanded fee for private ward.Director of the institute Dr MC Pant rubbished the allegations and said, "The patient who came to us was suffering from cancer and was terminally ill. Everyday, patients' relatives promised they would be paying the fee and requested us to continue the treatment. We did not stop treatment on humanitarian grounds. But, on Thursday, when the patient died, some anti-social elements joined hands with his family and refused to pay the hospital fee, and threatened that the hospital administration will have to bear the expense. " Deceased was identified as 55-year-old Ram Shankar Yadav.
