The NY State Assembly has suspended its impeachment investigation into Andrew Cuomo in a move that has sparked suspicion of a 'shady deal' between the outgoing governor and New York Democrats that both satisfies public calls for his head while allowing him to preserve his career.   Cuomo resigned on Tuesday, before the Assembly could launch an impeachment trial that would not only block him from running again but would stop him from claiming his pension.  Others had wanted the impeachment proceedings to continue, claiming he should be stopped from seeking office again because of the nursing home scandal and the sexual harassment claims against him.  The committee launches its investigation in March. Texas House Sergeant-at-Arms Michael Black is going door to door to round up Democrats in the Lone Star State in an effort to reach quorum so the legislature can vote on election security, according to KXAN.  The House needs two-thirds of its members present to hold a vote, but Democrats have refused to show up, with nearly 60 fleeing to Washington, DC last month in a flashy display of defiance.  Local law enforcement is also assisting in the search, and if they find any lawmakers they can take them into custody and bring them to the Texas House chamber.  Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan signed the civil arrest warrants of 52 Democrats who remained absent from business on Wednesday, and Black delivered their arrest warrants at the Capitol. The decision was approved after the Texas House voted 80-12 to move forward with the arrests for absent members, which enabled Phelan to issue the warrants. Singer Nicki Minaj and her husband are being sued by the woman he was convicted of trying to rape in 1995, who claims the couple had harassed her and offered to pay her hundreds of thousands of dollars to recant her story.  Minaj's now-husband, Kenneth 'Zoo' Petty, was accused of sexually assaulting the woman in Jamaica, Queens, when they were both 16 years old in 1994. Petty was convicted of attempted rape a year later.  The conviction forces Petty to register as a sex offender, but he failed to do so in the state of California when he moved there with Minaj, and he was arrested in March 2020. Victim Jennifer Hough, now 43, claims Minaj and Petty began harassing her immediately after Petty was arrested, and tried to get her to recant her testimony. A Texas death-row inmate scheduled to be executed on September 8 has sued state prison officials demanding that his pastor be allowed to lay hands on him as he dies from a lethal injection. A media executive has agreed to plead guilty to participating in the college admissions fraud scandal after she paid $525,000 to win admission for her children to top universities. Elisabeth Kimmel, the former owner and president of San Diego-based Midwest Television, had been scheduled to go to trial in September in Boston alongside three other wealthy parents charged in the nationwide 'Varsity Blues' scandal. Kimmel, 57, will instead become the 32nd parent to admit to their role in the entangled scheme that ensnared dozens of multi-millionaires and several celebrities hoping to use their money and influence to give their kids an unfair advantage.  Prosecutors said Kimmel paid California college admissions consultant William 'Rick' Singer $275,000 in 2012 to help win her daughter a place at Georgetown University as a tennis recruit, with the help of coach Gordon Ernst.
