Los Angeles shoe store worker is shot dead after attempting to break up customers who were arguing about a raffle for $110 Nike sneakers

A Los Angeles shoe store employee has been shot dead after he intervened during an argument between customers over a promotional raffle for a new pair of Nike sneakers.

Jayren Bradford, 26, was killed outside the Shoe Palace on Melrose Avenue at around 12:20pm Wednesday.

Cellphone footage shows the employee intervening as a crowd of men and women argue outside the store.

Suddenly an unidentified man draws a gun and fires a single shot, and Bradford is seen crumpling to the ground as others nearby flee for cover.

The dispute appears to have been over a promotional raffle run by the store for a pair of Nike Dunk Lows in Black Multi Camo, according to ABC7.

The sneakers are expected to be released on August 18, and they will retail for $110.

But they are already being offered online for $150.

The shooter was described by police as a short-haired Latino man in his early 20s who was wearing a black shirt, shorts, and shoes.

He was last seen leaving the scene in a silver Toyota Camry with temporary license plate number BC10D32 going north on Genesse Avenue, according to CBSLA.

Bradford's co-worker Keyshawn Williams told KTLA 5 that Bradford had just arrived at work and had been attempting to diffuse the situation outside the store.

He said:  'Jay came from his car and he confronted them saying, "What’s the problem? What’s the deal?"

'Then everybody shifted their aggression towards Jay. And they were here with other friends, so they all surrounded him and that’s when he was shot.

'My one colleague was there right in front of him. He was trying to help him, trying to stop the blood. But it was fatal.'

Wilshire Area officers responded to the shooting at 12:27pm and found Bradford suffering from the gunshot wound, according to a report from the LAPD.

The Los Angeles Fire Department told DailyMail.com that they received the call at 12:28pm and helped transport Bradford to the hospital. Bradford was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Surrounding roads were closed as police investigated the shooting.

A memorial for Bradford was set up outside the store the night of his death.

Bradford was an aspiring musician who lived down the street from the store he was working at for the past few months before his death.

'It’s very heartbreaking because he just lived down the street, he walked to work,' the victim’s friend Eric Tacam told CBSLA.

'He was from Colorado. He moved out here last year and he was pursuing his career to become a musician. He was just a nice person, a great person. Every time I came in, my family came in, he always took care of us, he always looked out for us.'

Investigators are looking into further searching through the store's surveillance footage and finding out more about the gunman's identity.

DailyMail.com reached out to Shoe Palace for comment.
