A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after a gang of 25 teenagers launched a brazen attack on a luxury SUV while the driver and his terrified 74-year-old mother sat inside fearing they would be killed.  Horrifying video shows a gang on bicycles smashing up Max Torgovnick's BMW on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue in broad daylight on Tuesday. Torgovnick, who hails from the Upper East Side, was behind the wheel when the mob started leaping on the vehicle and stomping on its windshield as his elderly mother wept beside him and screamed 'They are going to kill us'. Mitch McConnell blasts $2,000 COVID checks as 'socialism for rich people' and says money would end up in hands of 'high-earning households' as he blocks vote AGAIN - and has a dig at 'very wrong' Bernie

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell killed yet another Democratic effort to pass a stand alone bill that would increase stimulus checks to $2,000.  In the opening minutes of the Senate's New Year's Eve session, McConnell objected after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer tried to get a vote yet again.  While President Donald Trump has pushed for the $2000 amount, McConnell characterized the checks as Congress giving 'cash to high-earning households' and said lawmakers needed to focus on 'targeted relief' to Americans suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic.  'Experts from across the political spectrum agree that our colleague from Vermont is dead wrong on this,' McConnell said, aiming the comments at Sen. Bernie Sanders. 'Socialism for rich people is a terrible way to help the American families that are actually struggling.'  Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell crushed yet another Democratic effort to get a vote on a stand alone bill to incre

Dollar suffers its worst yearly loss since 2017 as unprecedented Federal Reserve stimulus spurs fears of higher inflation and boosts gold

Image
The dollar posted its biggest yearly loss since 2017 on Thursday, capping off a manic year that saw the currency soar as a pandemic safe-haven in March, before dropping on unprecedented Federal Reserve stimulus. The greenback soared to a three-year high of 102.99 against a basket of currencies in March, before ending the year at 89.96, down 6.77 percent on the year and 12.65 percent from its March high. An improving global economic outlook as COVID-19 vaccines are rolled out, rock-bottom U.S. interest rates and ongoing Fed bond purchases have dented the dollar's appeal. Expectations of additional fiscal stimulus and rising fiscal and current account deficits are additional headwinds that are likely to hurt the U.S. currency over the coming year. Walking home from a spot of Christmas shopping, former Heathrow Airport workers Arti Dhir and Kaval Raijada looked like they hadn’t a care in the world. Free to do as they please, the couple can pop from their West London council flat to the post office or gym without so much as raising an eyebrow. Yet, remarkably, the pair are the prime suspects in a horrific plot to murder their 11-year-old adopted son in India for a £150,000 insurance payout – and have repeatedly managed to evade justice. Dhir, 55, and Raijada, 31, have been the subject of extradition requests from the Indian government to return and stand trial for their alleged roles in the murders of little Gopal Sejani and his brother-in-law Harsukhbhai Kardani, who was killed attempting to save the child.
