Trail of destruction left by a huge python after it slithered into a family's bathroom and trashed it trying to escape

A 2.5-metre carpet python left a trail of destruction after slithering into a family's home and destroying their bathroom. The snake, which isn't venomous, was found in a house in Tallebudgera on the Gold Coast. The family was woken up to find the snake trashing the bathroom while 'making a poor attempt to escape', South East Reptile Relocations said. The 2.5 metre carpet python, which isn't venomous, was found in a home at Tallebudgera on the Gold Coast The family snapped a photo of the mess the python left behind after knocking over perfume bottles, aerosol sprays, and toilet paper. Just two weeks ago, another Queensland family discovered a python on their property. Reptile removalist Glenn Lawrence was called to a job in Jimboomba, in south Brisbane, where a python was lurking in their bird aviary. When Mr Lawrence arrived and removed the snake, they realised one of their dozens of Finch chicks was missing.  'The snake got in there quite easily but it ate a F

Melbourne may be Covid free but life is far from normal in the Victorian capital. WAYNE FLOWER reports on a city still deeply scarred by months of isolation

Melbourne remains trapped in a state of limbo as its COVID-wary population eases itself out of months of isolation.  Tuesday marked the first time since February 29 — 269 days ago — that Victoria has not had a single active case of the dreaded virus.  If Melburnians plan to celebrate the milestone, which comes after 25 consecutive days of zero infections, they are doing it at home. Melbourne Town Hall is dressed up for Christmas festivities, but it remains to be seen if anyone will celebrate in town with it  Much of Melbourne remains boarded up - a grim reminder of the city's brutal lockdown Flinders Street Station is hardly a hive of activity despite the lifting of the most severe restrictions It is hardly surprising that the CBD has not instantly bounced back to life over the past couple of weeks.  A walk around town remains largely depressing, with once familiar cafes, shops and watering holes now boarded shut.  The court district - once a thriving beacon of life - continues to

Trump is mocked on Twitter after footage of his 2018 turkey pardoning reemerges showing him joking that the bird had 'refused to concede and demanded a recount but had ultimately lost'

Video has begun recirculating on Twitter of the 2018 presidential turkey pardoning  ceremony, when President Trump joked that which bird to cull was decided by the popular vote, but one had refused to concede. The entire ceremony was filled with tongue-in-cheek jokes about vote counting, recounts, subpoenas and judicial power, something when revisited in 2020 looks all too familiar. Although both turkeys were being pardoned, Trump declared Peas the winner of a White House poll that asked the public to pick their favorite turkey to pardon.   'The winner of this vote was decided by a fair and open election conducted on the White House website. This was a fair election. Unfortunately Carrots refused to concede and demanded a recount and we are still fighting with Carrots.  'We have come to a conclusion. Carrots, I'm sorry to tell you the result did not change. Too bad for Carrots,' Trump said. Two years ago President Trump pardoned turkeys 'Peas' and 'Carrots

Iconic Green Park Hotel in Sydney is sold to St Vincent's Hospital and will be transformed into a mental health facility as patrons pay tribute to the 127-year-old drinking hole

Sydneysiders have been left distraught after one of the city's most iconic pubs was sold to a hospital to be used for patient care. The Green Park Hotel in inner-city Darlinghurst will close its doors on December 20 after its owners finalised the sale of the historic venue for between $5million to $10million to St Vincent's Hospital on Monday.  The 127-year-old pub, known to locals as the 'Greeny' or simply the 'GP', will be converted into a mental health space by hospital administrators. Fans of the popular drinking hole were gutted by the sudden announcement though - with many asking why the hospital had to buy up such a beloved community landmark.
