A North Carolina police officer and an armed carjacking suspect were killed in a shootout overnight that also wounded a second officer. The deadly gunfire exchange took place just before 11pm on Wednesday on Gateway Lane in Concord. The city’s about 23 miles northeast of Charlotte. Authorities on Thursday identified the slain officer as 25-year-old Jason Shuping, who joined the force last year.  During a press conference on Thursday, Concord Police Chief Gary Gacek said officers were responding to a report about a car crash on Bruton Smith Boulevard when they came upon a vehicle that had crashed into a guardrail and been abandoned. A federal grand jury has charged six men with conspiring to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer in what investigators say was a plot by anti-government extremists who were angry over her coronavirus policies. The men allegedly surveilled the Democratic governor's vacation home, mapped out the nearest police stations, and suggested blowing up a connecting land bridge to prevent law enforcement officials from responding.  The indictment released Thursday by US Attorney Andrew Birge levied the conspiracy charge against Adam Dean Fox, Barry Gordon Croft Jr., Ty Gerard Garbin, Kaleb James Franks, Daniel Joseph Harris and Brandon Michael-Ray Caserta.  They are all from Michigan except for Croft, who lives in Delaware. The charge carries a maximum penalty of life in prison, Birge said in a statement. Body camera and surveillance video showing a recent officer-involved shooting captured the moment an armed suspect fell from the ceiling at a Los Angeles-area supermarket and then opened fire at cops during a wild chase through the store aisles.  The incident took place back on November 1, but the Los Angeles Police Department released information, footage and 911 calls related to the armed confrontation on Wednesday.  According to the LAPD's description of the incident, at around 6pm on November 1, a man, later identified as 37-year-old Manuel Hernandez, was found inside the rear warehouse area of a grocery store in the 16900 block of Devonshire Street.
