the taliban sent a signal they were coming for me - a bullet-ridden body on my doorstep

Bakhtiar Shoresh realised the Taliban were coming for him when he received ‘a signal’ three months ago. Chillingly, the ‘signal’ was the bullet-riddled body of a young man dumped at midnight on the doorstep of his home in a quiet Kabul suburb. Over the previous 20 years, Bakhtiar, 46, worked as an interpreter for The Mail on Sunday and many other Western media organisations. British security companies in Afghanistan also benefited from his expertise and before beginning a Masters degree in Business Administration last year, he was the Kabul representative of a UAE company manufacturing armoured vehicles. If, as widely believed, the Taliban have a hit list, he was surely on it – and more than likely, he adds with a mordant laugh, nearer the top than the bottom. The man left slumped against his front door was a stranger. ‘I hadn’t heard any shots – none of us had – which makes it even more clear in my mind that he was killed elsewhere and brought to my house as a warning,’ says the fathe

Almost70 per cent of teenage girls receiving help for psychological abuse were targeted through smartphones or tablets, shocking new statistics reveal. Experts have warned of the 'growing opportunity' for abusers to use technology, with increasing numbers of young women being referred to domestic abuse charities. Emma Pickering, tech abuse team manager at domestic violence charity Refuge, said: 'Young people have more devices, more accounts, so there are more options for a perpetrator.' Almost 70 per cent of women referred to abuse charity Refuge between 2019 and 2020 were targeted using smartphones and tablets (file image) Between 2019 and 2020, 714 girls aged 16 to 19 were referred to Refuge, with 70 per cent of them suffering psychological or emotional abuse. In 68 per cent of those cases, the perpetrator – overwhelmingly husbands or boyfriends – had used technology. Young women are under pressure to share passwords and account details 'to prove trust in a relati

Donald and Melania Trump on Thursday shared their 'deepest condolences' for the 13 American service members killed in the explosions in Kabul.  'Melania and I send our deepest condolences to the families of our brilliant and brave Service Members whose duty to the U.S.A. meant so much to them. Our thoughts are also with the families of the innocent civilians who died today in the savage Kabul attack,' the former president said in a statement. 'This tragedy should never have been allowed to happen, which makes our grief even deeper and more difficult to understand,' he added. Trump has been deeply critical of President Joe Biden's handling of the situation in Afghanistan, including the evacuation of Americans stationed there and their Afghan allies. Melania Trump added thoughts of her own via her Twitter account: 'We are praying for the families and loved ones of the Marine heroes killed in Kabul and for everyone who is suffering during this difficult tim
