Leo Cortez woke on October 9 to find his vehicle on fire An 82-year-old Latino in California claims his van was torched in the run up to the election because he voted for Donald Trump. Leo Cortez, who believes he was targeted because of his multiple Trump 2020 signs in his front yard, was sleeping at his South Pasadena home  on  October 9, when he was woken by neighbors to alert him his van had been set on fire. Fire crews and police responded and the flames were quickly extinguished but left significant damage to the van. 'The truck was unusable. On the outside the damage is not seen so much, but on the inside it was destroyed,' said Cortez.  No one was hurt in the incident. The suspect has not yet been arrested. When Cortez, who was born and raised in LA, reviewed his home security footage, he said he saw a young white man slashing his tires and setting the blaze.  'The video cameras managed to detect a white man who must be over 20 years of age,' Cortez said. Four Syrian refugees have withdrawn a claim for damages against a Qatari bank they say funded a terrorist group's torturers after an alleged harassment campaign by agents of the Gulf state's ruling family.  The claimants are bringing a case at the High Court in London against Doha Bank for allegedly allowing itself to be used as a vehicle to funnel large sums of cash to jihadi group the Al Nusra Front. They accuse wealthy Qatari brothers Moutaz and Ramez al-Khayyat of using the bank to transfer money to countries bordering Syria so that it could be channelled to the al Qaida-affiliated group. Eight claimants, who have been granted anonymity, were seeking damages from the bank and the brothers, alleging they suffered physical and psychological torture at the hands of the jihadists. They said the three defendants knew or should have known that they were funding terrorism in breach of international law. The NBA has asked teams to require COVID-19 testing for fans seated within 30 feet of the court during the upcoming season. The Athletic's Shams Charania reported Wednesday that the league sent a memo to all 30 teams about protocols for markets that are eligible to welcome fans during the 2020-2021 campaign, which will begin December 22. A league source has since confirmed the report to the Daily Mail.  The NBA reportedly included language within the memo, requiring anyone who will be within 30 feet of the court to test negative for COVID-19 two days before the game or with a rapid screening prior to tip-off. Each team will still need to adhere to local health guidelines, regarding capacity, social distancing and face coverings. Details of the plan have not been revealed. University students will be offered Covid tests after lockdown ends on December 2 before having a six-day window to travel home for Christmas under the government's evacuation-style plan.  But critics have warned the plans to create a 'travel window' are 'riddled with holes' and 'leave little room for error'. While the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has thrown much uncertainty over what the holiday season will look like in 2020, one long-standing tradition is set to remain: the Rockefeller Center is still getting its tree.  A 75-foot tall, 11-ton Norway Spruce from Oneonta, in upstate New York, has been selected to take centerstage at the iconic Manhattan landmark this year. The towering tree will be cut down on Thursday morning and hoisted by a ‘huge crane’ onto a 115-foot-long trailer, before beginning its voyage to the Big Apple, organizers announced in a press release Wednesday. The Norway was donated to the city by Daddy Al’s General Store, which is located around 170 miles north of Manhattan, and will be erected outside 30 Rock on Saturday. ‘Say hello to the 2020 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree!’ the Rockefeller Center wrote in an Instagram post. ‘Hailing from Oneonta, NY, this Norway Spruce will arrive at Rockefeller Center this Saturday, November 14 to kick off the holiday season.’
