Trump is mocked on Twitter after footage of his 2018 turkey pardoning reemerges showing him joking that the bird had 'refused to concede and demanded a recount but had ultimately lost'

Video has begun recirculating on Twitter of the 2018 presidential turkey pardoning  ceremony, when President Trump joked that which bird to cull was decided by the popular vote, but one had refused to concede.

The entire ceremony was filled with tongue-in-cheek jokes about vote counting, recounts, subpoenas and judicial power, something when revisited in 2020 looks all too familiar.

Although both turkeys were being pardoned, Trump declared Peas the winner of a White House poll that asked the public to pick their favorite turkey to pardon.

'The winner of this vote was decided by a fair and open election conducted on the White House website. This was a fair election. Unfortunately Carrots refused to concede and demanded a recount and we are still fighting with Carrots.

'We have come to a conclusion. Carrots, I'm sorry to tell you the result did not change. Too bad for Carrots,' Trump said.

The bird politics of 2018 seems to have uncanny parallels with 2020 with President Trump also refusing to concede to President-elect Joe Biden after the election earlier this month.

Just as in Trump's turkey pardon joke, he has also demanded for recounts to take place in both Georgia and Wisconsin although just as in Carrots' scenario, the results have not changed.

It led to some gentle mocking of the president on his favorite social media platform, Twitter.

'Carrots = Orange, Did not concede, Asked for a recount, The results did not change,' wrote Timon.

'In other words, the refusal to concede was premeditated at least two years in advance,' suggested another.

'Trump is the turkey of 2020', declared Eric Rosswood.

'Here's hoping Trump gets the same treatment as Carrots in the end,' added

The president has made very few public appearances since the presidential election was called for Joe Biden.

This year's turkeys - Corn and Cob - arrived Sunday at the luxury Willard InterContinental Hotel in Washington and photographers were invited there Monday, as they are every year, to capture the fowl strutting around inside their hotel room.
