I come in peace: Swim teacher, 32, claims he is 'humiliated' after being turned away at pubs and clubs on the Gold Coast's party strip because of his VERY large tattoo

A swim teacher has declared he 'feels humiliated' after being continually turned away from venues due to his distinctive body tattoo.

Felipe Mattos, 32, isn't hard to spot in a crowd thanks to his neck tattoo, which reads 'peace'.

He said he never encountered any issues when living in places like Sydney and Darwin - but it has been a very different story on the Gold Coast's party strip.

'Having tattoos doesn't make me a criminal. I work with children, I have been a government employee but yet I am treated like a trouble maker,' he told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

The personal trainer, who is also a swim teacher and DJ (pictured above) said he encountered no problems with bouncers when living in places such as Sydney and Darwin

'I don't turn people away from my gym because of how they look, why is it OK in a pub?

'It deeply hurts me, I am a nice guy, it is one tattoo but I continue to be judged by it.'

In the past nine months, Mattos, who is also a club DJ, feels he has been a victim of discrimination after being denied entry to at least three licensed venues on the glitter strip due to his creative ink. 

Mr Mattos said his most recent knock back was just last month. 

'Security said the boss doesn't like the look (of neck tattoos). It is humiliating,' he said. 

'Maybe if it said something like "f**k the police", I would understand, but it says peace.' 

Surfers Paradise Licensed Venues Association president Tim Martin said club and pub owners always have the final say about who enters their venues - but they are encouraged to show discretion.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Mr Mattos for further comment.
