New Year's Eve weather winners and losers: Sydney is set for a wet and cool celebration but two other capitals will enjoy a beautiful summer evening - here's how it'll be where you are
Sydneysiders can expect a miserable start to the new year with this week's bad weather continuing into the weekend - while those on Australia's west coast can celebrate in near-perfect conditions.
The Bureau of Meteorology forecast wet and wild weather for the east coast of Australia with hue rain in Queensland, New South Wales, ACT, Victoria and Tasmania.
Temperatures are expected to get as low as 19C in Sydney over New Year's Eve and New Year's Day with both days having a 60 per cent chance of rain.
Melbourne will also see a miserable start to the new year with a 70 per cent chance of rainfall on Friday.
But for those on the other side of the country in Western Australia the mercury will reach a sweltering 31C on Thursday and 35C on Friday in Perth with little to no chance of rain.
Australia's east coast and northern parts of the Top End will welcome the new year with a heavy downpour of rain

Similar warm weather will be seen in South Australia with temperatures in Adelaide to soar above 30C over Thursday and Friday.
Melody Sturm, from the weather bureau, said that unfortunately for revellers, thunderstorms and rain would continue across NSW during New Year's Eve celebrations.
'We'll see this continue for at least the next week but mainly in the next few days we'll see increased potential for thunderstorm risk, especially in far west of NSW,' she said.
'It's not going to look that great for New Year's but also not that bad, however through the north coast we will see some more intense rainfall.'
The dreary weather will also be felt in Hobart which will be battered with heavy rain during most of Thursday.
Brisbane also won't escape the clouds, with a 70 per cent chance of rain on Friday with the wet weather due to arrive on New Year's Eve.

Darwin is also expected to gain as much as 30mm of rain on Thursday as heavy storms batter the city over the weekend, with severe weather warnings in place for northern areas of the Top End.
Canberra residents will ring in the new year with relatively calm weather. There's a slight chance of showers, most likely in the afternoon and evening, with tops of 26C before cooling down to a maximum of 22C on Friday.
The rain along the east coast is due to the current dominance of the La Nina climate pattern, which will deliver a wetter summer.
A La Niña occurs when stronger equatorial winds, blowing east to west, cool the Pacific Ocean in the tropical north of Australia.
Earlier on Wednesday, more than 60 roads across Queensland were closed off due to major flooding caused by a super storm which saw some some regions collect 100mm of water.(Pictured: road closed in Queensland from flooding)

In Paget near Mackay, a massive 159mm of rain fell in 24 hours while Trafalgar Station was drenched with 136mm.
Melbourne won't be able to party like this as there are many restrictions still active, and would struggle to anyway as rain is forecast
