Salaya Sailing Vessels Owners Association has urged the Indian High Commission in Islamabad seeking its intervention in the case pertaining to seizure of two of their vessels by Pakistan Coast Guard a few days ago.Association president A H Bhaya said two vessels namely Al Burhan and Al Faruqi were seized by Pakistanis. "We have requested the concerned government authorities to take up the matter with the Pakistan government. We fear that while the crew of these vessels will be deported, the vessels would be kept there?" he said. Al Faruqi with 11 Indians on board had sailed from Salaya with livestock for Dubai and had mechanical problems in the international waters on April 13. It had drifted towards Pakistani port of Pasni near Gwadar where it was seized. Meanwhile, Al Burhan sailed from Mundra to Dubai and its crew tried to contact those on Al Faruqi. However, this vessel with 14 crew members was also seized on April 18.Bhaya said Pakistani authorities have seized the documents of the two vessels and the crew members were produced before a local court in Gwadar that convicted them under Foreigners Act 1946 for a period of 10 days rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs 1,000 each. He said the Indian authorities must take up the matter with Pakistani counterparts by Friday failing which there are chances that the crew members will remain behind bars for a longer duration. tnn
