Ocasio-Cortez is a radical incoming lawmaker who has moved into the national psyche
Firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., called for "economic inequality, colonialism, sexism," when she helped nominate progressive Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-VT, as the Democratic presidential candidate for the year 2020.
Although former Vice President Joe Biden was assured of winning the nominating vote, during the primary, Sanders won delegates and was officially nominated during the proceedings of the Democratic National Convention.
Ocasio-Cortez, a progressive democratic senator who has skyrocketed into the national imagination since she took office, has aligned closely with Sanders and initiatives like the Green New Deal, Medicare-for-all and comprehensive immigration reform.

"It is a mass campaign to retake our democracy," Ocasio-Cortez said during a brief speech that lasted just 60 seconds about Sanders' camp.
Ocasio-Cortez described Sanders' democratic movement as "a mass movement of people" working towards pushing the nation towards guaranteed health care and higher education.
Ocasio-Cortez is widely seen as the party's progressive flank of Sanders' successor.
She said Sanders was running a historic grassroots campaign that turns away from an American history checked by violence, xenophobia, racial injustice and more and "realizes the unsustainable brutality that rewards explosive wealth inequalities for the few at the expense of long-term stability for the many."
"At a time when millions of people in the U.S. are seeking solutions to these issues," she said, "I hereby second Bernie Sanders' nomination as president of the U.S.."
