Moment armed robber shoots man in leg AFTER he hands over his watch and jewelry on Manhattan sidewalk

A shocking video shows the moment a 35-year-old man was shot during a sidewalk robbery in Manhattan in the early hours on Sunday.

He was approached by a man wearing a hoodie on 30th Street and 3rd Avenue in Kips Bay at around 2.15am. 

Footage shows the robber approaching the victim holding a firearm and demanding he hand over jewelry before shooting him in the thigh.

CCTV footage from the street shows the victim walking alone as a man in a red hooded jumper runs up behind him. 

The victim can be seen attempting to back away from the gun-wielding man while cars continue to drive by. 

The thief also demanded the victim give him his chain and watch. 

Despite handing over the items, the man with the firearm still decided to use his weapon.

The victim was also asked to hand over his jewelry, including a watch and a chain as the robber pointed a gun at him

According to the NY Post, he shot the victim in the thigh and afterwards was seen on the clip picking up all the items off the floor and running away.

Meanwhile, the victim can also be seen attempting to make his escape, darting off in between two cars and sheltering behind one. 

He was taken to Bellevue Hospital after the incident where he is 'expected to survive'. 

As of Monday morning no arrests are reported to have been made.

The robbery is the latest in the string of crimes that have left many New Yorkers worried that the city is sliding back to the dark days of the '70s and '80s when it earned the nickname 'Fear City'. 

In the 1970s, the city faced $10billion in debt and funds were cut to the police and other services.

NYPD data shows that shootings have spiked 28.9 percent in 2021 compared to last year as of July 11, its most recent data. There have been 803 shooting incidents in 2021 compared to 623 in 2020.

Assaults have also been on the rise this year, with 11,550 felony assaults reported as of July 18 - up 5.9 percent from the same time period the year before.  

Rapes are also up 2.8 percent so far this year, with 778 reported in the year to July 18, compared to 757 in the same period of 2020.

Other sex crimes are up 24.3 percent to 2,489 this year, compared to 2,002  last year, according to NYPD statistics.

Shootings, meanwhile, have spiked 21.9 percent in 2021 compared to last year as of July 18, its most recent data, with 840 shooting incidents in 2021 compared to 689 in 2020.

There are also 16 percent more shooting victims this year, the data shows, with 981 people falling prey to gun violence compared to 846 last year.  

And the number of murders risen from 233 to 226 in the same timeframe - a 3.1 percent rise, while rape cases have risen 2.8 percent and other sex crimes have risen a staggering 24.3 percent.
