McKayla Maroney eviscerates Team USA over years-long abuse: Gymnast reveals she was left alone, naked and crying at 15 with Larry Nassar 'lying on top of her' - and had to compete at Olympics with broken foot AND concussion because he LIED about injuries

Gymnast McKayla Maroney has unleashed on Team USA and USA Gymnastics over the abuse she suffered at the hands of pedophile doctor Larry Nassar, recalling how at age 15, she was left 'alone, naked' while he 'lay on top of her' as she sobbed for 50 minutes.

The 2012 Olympic gold and silver medalist lifted the lid on the horrors she endured while competing for the national team, claiming that she was 'banned' from seeing or speaking to her parents while traveling with her Team USA coaches, whose 'care' she was left in while she was being sexually abused by Nassar.

Speaking out in the wake of this year's vault final, the gymnast, now 25, also recalled how she was forced to compete in the London Games in 2012 with a broken foot, a concussion, and a busted nose after Nassar lied to coaches about the extent of her injuries.

In a series of Instagram posts and tweets, Maroney peeled back the curtain to reveal the dark realities that young gymnasts have to go through - claiming that she was left 'starving' by her Team USA coaches as a teenager and verbally abused about her injuries because the pedophile doctor had lied about the severity of them.

'So, @USAGym and USOC aka @TeamUSA, when I was under "your care" in Tokyo at the 2011 World at 15, and my parents weren't allowed to stay in my hotel or see me in person... When I was all alone, naked, with Larry Nassar on top of me for 50min . Who's fault is that?' she wrote on Twitter.

According to Maroney, USA Gymnastics banned athletes' parents from spending time with them during competition, insisting that they were a 'distraction', adding that she was completely isolated from her family during the 2011 World Championships in Japan, where she claims she was 'starving' because her food intake was being restricted by the team's coaches.

'Parents were seen as a distraction, we would get in trouble if we spoke to them,' she wrote. 'My mom would send me packages of food to my hotel in Tokyo, because I was starving. She did everything she could to help me.'

According to Maroney, she raised the alarm with Team USA coach John Geddert after Nassar abused her in Japan, recalling how she was 'yelled at' for speaking out about the doctor.

During her Instagram video, she said she was made to take a concussion test 'over and over' until she passed so she would not be taken out of the running for a spot on the Olympic team

That culture of silence was also passed down to the gymnasts on the team, according to Maroney, who accused an unnamed older teammate of telling her to 'shut the f**k up' when she spoke out about Nassar's abuse.

'I was told to "shut the f**k up, and don't ever say anything like that about Larry Nassar again" by an older teammate I looked up to,' she shared.

'That scared the hell out of me, so I listened, and didn’t say anything for a long time. I just suppressed it until it came up again in 2015.'

She added that, after being abused by Nassar, she was left to wander the halls of her hotel alone at 2am, because her roommate had fallen asleep and left her locked out of her room.

In a series of Instagram Story videos, Maroney then detailed the torment she endured during the London 2012 Olympics, when she says she was made to compete with a host of injuries that Nassar lied to her coaches about.

Maroney revealed that she broke her foot during practice as soon as the team landed in London because she was jet-lagged and 'dizzy as hell' - hitting out at the coaches, including former Team USA head coach Márta Károlyi - for making her go through training despite knowing that she wasn't at full fitness.

It was also at the world championships in Tokyo that she endured the abuse from Nassar, who 'lay on top of her' while she was naked for 50 minutes

'As soon as I got to London, I broke my foot,' she recalled. 'I also, two weeks before the Olympics, hit the back of my head so hard that my nose broke. A bone in my nose exploded to protect my brain from brain damage.

'So I had a very bad concussion two weeks before Olympic Trials and if you've ever had a really bad concussion you know it takes a while to heal from.'

She added that Nassar knew about her injuries, but lied to the team's coaches about them so that they wouldn't pull her from the competition - despite knowing that the 'shattered' bone in her foot could leave her unable to ever do gymnastics again.

According to Maroney, she was made to take multiple concussion tests - the majority of which she failed - until she finally passed one, so that she could go ahead and compete both in trials and at the Olympics.

'I had to do that concussion test over and over and over again - I feel like you're probably not allowed to do that - until I passed, but I needed to go to trials and I needed to go to the Olympics. My doctors knew that, Larry Nassar knew that,' she said.

'He also lied to Márta and told Márta that my foot wasn't broken because he was the one who helped with X-rays and passed along the information.'

During the 2012 Olympics, the press was told that Maroney was struggling with the lasting impact of an 'old broken toe', but in reality, she says she was dealing with a new injury that could well have ended her gymnastics career once and for all.

'It was actually my foot, the sesamoid bone in my foot was completely shattered and dislocated, and it hurt so bad,' she said. 'I had to get a miracle surgery after the ... and they told me I'd probably never walk in heels again, never do gymnastics again.

'Me competing at the Olympics was literally risking the rest of my gymnastics career.'

Maroney furiously lashed out at USAG and the USOC over the abuse that she endured at the hands of Nassar - and the fact that she was allowed to compete with such severe injuries during the 2012 Games, saying that neither organization has ever really taken responsibility for the trauma that she suffered.

'USAG says they're not responsible for the abuse that happened,' she tweeted. 'Well then who is? I was a minor in Tokyo in London.

'We were not allowed to see our parents until after competitions, they were not allowed to stay in our hotel, or speak to us in person. We were in USAG's "care".

'USAG then points the finger at the USOC for abuse because they manage Olympics, international competitions, and all things Team USA.

'Tell me why I never spoke to anyone from the USOC until the day I got to London?? And they just gave me rules of things I shouldn't say or do.'

She claimed that the USOC was 'so hands off', she had no idea that she was 'under their care' - and was particularly horrified to learn that the organization was actually in charge of the running of the Karolyi Ranch, the former training center for Team USA's gymnasts, where she was 'molested twice a day' and given 'limited' access to food.

'USOC was so hands off I didn't even know I was under their care - or that the Karolyi camp I trained at every month was an Olympic facility managed by them!!?' she continued. 'To me it felt more like a gym in the middle of a forest, with limited food supply, and a doctor molesting me twice a day.'

During the 2012 Olympics, Maroney says she was verbally lambasted by head coach Marta for being so 'dramatic' about her injuries because Nassar had lied about the extent of them.

'Marta yelled at me saying, "Why are you being so dramatic? This is an old break." It wasn't an old break. It was a fresh break,' Maroney said in her Instagram video.

She ultimately won a gold medal and a silver medal in the 2012 Games.

After the Olympics were over, she had to have 'miracle surgery' that she said football players get and was told she may never do gymnastics again.

Fortunately, the surgery was a success.

'From my experience speaking up about abuse is extremely exhausting physically, mentally, and emotionally,' she said in an Instagram post shared on July 26.

'From a young age I was taught to work hard, and persevere. Gymnastics taught me to be tough, resilient, and to overcome all obstacles,' she wrote.

'If you know me, or have been following me, you probably have picked up that I’m naturally just a positive, bubbly person, who leans more towards optimism, and having faith because that’s what makes me happy.

'So calling out abusers, and dwelling on all the dark negative pieces of my past felt extremely wrong for me.

'I hated the depressing tone my life took on, and how the media portrayed me.

I never wanted to be seen as a victim, I just wanted Larry Nassar in jail, and the people who enabled the abuse to be held accountable. I wanted to MOVE ON, and go back to being myself, but I needed to learn the power of my voice, boundaries, and WHEN to be resilient.'

Maroney is not the first athlete to hit out at USAG and the USOC over its handling of the Nassar abuse, with 24-year-old Simone Biles thrusting the issue into the spotlight once again during the Tokyo Games when she hinted that the trauma she endured as a result of the doctor's abuse is partly to blame for the mental health issues that have prompted her to withdraw from several finals.

Following the news that she had pulled out of the all-around final and would not defend her Olympic title, Biles drew a line between the trauma of Nassar's abuse and her decision to withdraw when she retweeted a statement of support from a fellow gymnast - who hit out at critics of the sporting superstar, while reminding the world that Biles was 'molested by her team doctor throughout her entire childhood'.

Maroney's 2012 teammate Aly Raisman has also repeatedly spoken out against USAG, most recently branding the organization an 'absolute disaster'

'We are talking about the same girl who was molested by her team doctor throughout her entire childhood and teenage years,' the statement, which was written by former gymnast-turned-fitness trainer Andrea Orris, read.

It continued: 'That girl has endured more trauma by the age of 24 than most people will ever go through in a lifetime.'

Although Biles, who was seen for the first time since the announcement when she stepped out to cheer on Team USA's male gymnasts in Tokyo on Wednesday, did not issue her own statement about Nassar or her decision to pull out of the all-around, a US official told DailyMail.com that Orris' message 'sums up everything Simone is feeling and wants to say'.

The source continued: 'The fact that Simone has retweeted it, shows that she agrees with every word that’s been said on her behalf.'

Biles, who has been incredibly outspoken in her criticism of USAG's handling of the Nassar scandal, and her struggle to deal with the resulting trauma of his abuse, did not share her own statement - instead allowing the news to be shared by the organization that she has so frequently blasted for 'failing' to protect its gymnasts from the pedophile doctor.

Maroney's 2012 teammate Aly Raisman has also repeatedly hit out at the organizations over the Nassar scandal, most recently branding USA Gymnastics an 'absolute disaster' while discussing Biles' decision to pull out of the team and individual finals in Tokyo.

'I think that USA Gymnastics has been an absolute disaster for years and unfortunately not enough has changed for us to believe in a safer future,' she told CNN's Jake Tapper.

'I think this just really shows the lack of leadership at USA Gymnastics and the US Olympic Committee. Their best athlete is struggling and is someone there to help her? I don't know.'
