Clemson cornerback Fred Davis II is charged with reckless driving 'after slamming into mail truck at 115mph and leaving its driver with severe injuries'
Clemson cornerback Fred Davis II was arrested and charged with misdemeanor reckless driving for going 60 mph over the posted speed limit in July, leading to an accident and severe injuries for one mail carrier.
The Clemson Police Department said in a release Sunday that Davis was traveling at 115 mph before colliding with a mail truck and injuring the driver on July 21. Davis turned himself in Sunday and has been released on bail.
Clemson police said the mail carrier sustained severe injuries in the wreck and 'will require months or longer for recovery.'

'The investigation revealed that Davis was traveling at a speed of 115 mph in a posted 55 mph speed zone prior to colliding with the mail carrier vehicle,' read the Clemson Police Department release.
'This willful and wanton action severely limited his ability to navigate safely through traffic and caused Davis to lose control of his vehicle prior to the collision.'
Davis was not injured in the accident. The school said Davis remains with the program and will be subject to internal discipline, per the Clemson Student-Athlete Handbook.
'Fred Davis remains with the program but will be subject to internal discipline,' the school statement read. 'Grounds for internal discipline for misdemeanor charges like this are covered under the terms of the Clemson Student-Athlete Handbook, which says that the head coach can recommend a course of action and upon concurrence of the designated CUAD administrator, administer sanctions.'
Davis, from Jacksonville, Florida, played in 11 games as a freshman in 2020. The 6-foot defensive back had 13 tackles and broke up two passes, both coming in Clemson's win over Notre Dame in the ACC Championship game a year ago.
