'My whole life changed': Jane Seymour says she experienced an 'awakening' when she 'DIED' after going into anaphylactic shock on film set

Jane Seymour has revealed she went through an 'awakening' after going into an anaphylactic shock on a film set - an experience which 'changed her whole life'.

The former Bond Girl, 69, claimed she 'died, left her body and was resuscitated' as she shot scenes for her portrayal as American-born Greek soprano Maria Callas in Onassis: The Richest Man in the World back in 1988.

The screen star explained that she went through the terrifying ordeal after an antibiotics injection missed a muscle and went into a vein.

Recalling the incident on a recent episode of the ID1OT podcast, the award-winning thespian said: 'I had anaphylactic shock and I died and I was resuscitated.

'After the injection I could feel my throat close, my heart beating too fast, it was like a loud noise in my chest and then suddenly silence, complete peace. Peace like I'd never experienced except when I've tried to do meditation.

'I saw this white light and then I looked down and I saw this body and it looked like me, and I've seen myself in movies and I know what I look like.

'There I am and there's this man screaming in Spanish 'emergency, ambulance', and now my naked backside and two huge syringes, and he's screaming down the phone. And it's like you're floating round the room, and I could see the syringe with blood in it. Then I remember looking back up at the white light.

WHAT IS ANAPHYLACTIC SHOCK?

Anaphylaxis, also known as anaphylactic shock, can kill within minutes.

It is a severe and potentially life-threatening reaction to a trigger, such as an allergy.

The reaction can often be triggered by certain foods, including peanuts and shellfish.

However, some medicines, bee stings, and even latex used in condoms can also cause the life-threatening reaction.

According to the NHS, it occurs when the immune system overreacts to a trigger.

Symptoms include: feeling lightheaded or faint; breathing difficulties – such as fast, shallow breathing; wheezing; a fast heartbeat; clammy skin; confusion and anxiety and collapsing or losing consciousness.

It is considered a medical emergency and requires immediate treatment.

Insect stings are not dangerous for most victims but a person does not necessarily have to have a pre-existing condition to be in danger.

An incremental build-up of stings can cause a person to develop an allergy, with a subsequent sting triggering the anaphylactic reaction.

'I remember just saying if I can I want to get back in that body because I have kids that I want to raise and I will not waste my time, I want to make a difference.'

The TV and film star, who has been married four times, shares Katherine, 38, and Sean, 35, with ex-husband David Flynn, and twins John and Kristopher, with former spouse James Keach.

The media personality went on to reveal she was accused of faking the ordeal by a film producer as they claimed she was afraid of the role.

She explained: 'When I eventually got back in my body — cortisone and adrenaline is what got me back — my body was shaking and the producer was saying, ''She's being hysterical, she's afraid of the role, she doesn't want to play the part''.

'No, I was not faking. The insurance doctor said 'You were nearly not here.'

The Uxbridge native admitted she was left temporarily scared of closing her eyes, but credited the experience for launching her Open Hearts foundation, which 'is dedicated to serving others and empowering people to turn adversity into opportunity'.

Jane reflected: 'After that happened my whole life changed because I realised that dying didn't hurt, that when you died you left your body and you could actually see and hear everything that was happening.

'Then I realised you only take two things with you when you die, that is the love you share in your life and the difference you've made. It was an incredible awakening.'
