Offering a bit of spoiler to fans she wrote: 'Her performance is magnificent - witty, unforgettable, scary as hell and sheer perfection (the scene where she pushes the baby down the cliff still gives me chills to this day.)'

Anne concluded 'I just wanted to say, one AH to another, that I tip my wig to the O.G.G.H.W. Anjelica Huston. #WitchesAreReal #TheWitchesMovie.'

In the 1983 book the Grand High Witch leads a murderous coven who hate children and are devising a plan to kill as many as possible.

The Grand High Witch invents a potion that will turn the children into mice, leading their confused parents to have them exterminated by mistake.

She even turns the book's lead character Luke, who is seven, into a mouse, but he and his beloved grandmother manage to foil the witches' diabolical scheme.

Luke is from England and his grandmother is from Norway, touchingly reflecting the author's own background as a Briton with Norwegian roots.

The 1990 movie starring Anjelica was helmed by Don't Look Now director Nicolas Roeg and has become a cult favorite despite being a commercial flop.

Robert Zemeckis of Forrest Gump fame directed the new version from a screenplay he wrote with Guillermo Del Toro and Kenya Barris.

Anne will star as the Grand High Witch with Jahzir Kadeem Bruno as Luke and Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer as his grandmother.

Although the book is set in England and Norway the movie will take place in Alabama in the 1960s and will drop on HBO Max October 22.

The novel happens to have been published the year Anjelica appeared in the film Prizzi's Honor, which earned the daughter of John Huston her only Oscar.

Anne has also won an Oscar, taking home best supporting actress for the 2012 movie adaptation of the musical Les Miserables, itself based on Victor Hugo's novel.
