Seven and hell: Spurs have lost seven shoot-outs on the spin since 1994

From Darren Lewis in Basel
Emmanuel Adebayor and Tom Huddlestone missed from the spot as 10-man Spurs blew the chance to reach the Europa League semi-finals.But heartbroken boss Andre Villas- Boas labelled his players “heroes” after they scored twice and survived Jan Vertonghen’s sending-off.Spurs have now lost their last SEVEN penalty shoot-outs, with their last triumph nearly 20 years ago, against Peterborough in 1994.But Villas-Boas said: “I’m proud of the players because, for me they are like heroes for the way they’ve done it. I wasn’t frustrated with Ade. It was a good performance from the team."They are heroes - not only because of what they’ve done today but because of what they’ve done throughout the competition.“I’m extremely happy with everyone’s performance. We’re extremely disappointed to go out toBasel, but it’s a great honour to have managed my players in this competition the way we did.
