She encourages her fans to embrace their natural beauty and
last week even posted a photo of herself without a stitch of make-up.
So it was little surprise when Demi Lovato emerged smiling and fresh-faced on Wednesday, despite having to start work before the sun came up.
The 20-year-old singer was dressed down in black jeans, studded boots, a rock 'n' roll T-shirt and beanie as she made her way to ABC studios in Manhattan for a soundcheck.
She covered up from the early morning chill in an Army green jacket and carried a black handbag and sunglasses with her - ready for the sunrise.
Demi performed her new hit single Heart Attack on the morning news programme, a day after she released a sultry music video for the single.

Fans
may have noticed the star stumbling over the lyrics as she began the
track, but ever the pro Demi pushed on and delivered a passionate
performance.
The star gushed about her 'most incredible fans' and spoke about how she stays 'normal' despite her meteoric rise to fame.
Her answer is to make sure she leaves time in her schedule for herself.
'You schedule a lot of days off when you can... I also have great people around me... that'll tell me, "You're getting crabby, you need to chill,"' she laughed.
Demi recently announced the upcoming release of her self-titled record, due May 14, which will be her fourth studio album.
The record release comes after a far more personal victory for the young singer, who has struggled with mental illness and substance abuse.
Demi successfully completed a stay at a rehab facility where she was receiving treatment in late January.
Since that time she is said to have decided to reside in a sober-living facility.
Casual lady: Demi looked in good spirits in her low key ensemble
The Skyscraper singer showed off her impeccable complexion in the portrait, demonstrating she is clearly not dependent upon her make-up kit.
But the picture was intended to be a clarion call to her dedicated fans - who call themselves Lovatics - and not simply a showcase for her natural good looks.
Throughout the day Lovatics tweeted the singer snaps of themselves without any cosmetic enhancements.
The former Barney & Friends actress responded with a delighted tweet: 'So many GORGEOUS faces.. Not enough battery left on my phone!!! Haha love you ALL!!!'
But the overwhelming response from her female fans did not go unnoticed by online bullies, who apparently gave some grief to a few of the Lovatics.
Demi advised her fans to not engage with the online detractors, saying: 'To all my Lovatics - if you come across haters, show them love.
'We don't bully back or retaliate. That's not what we are about!!'
