His performance as Caesar in Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes
received critical acclaim, earning him nominations from associations
which do not usually recognise performance capture as real acting.
And by the looks of the latest images from the set for the sequel, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, Andy Serkis is set to give another sterling performance.
The English actor was spotted on location in a forest in Vancouver, Canada wearing a motion caption suit, where he was joined by the latest edition to the cast - Keri Russell.
The process electronically converts the movements of his face into a digital database, which in turn can then be used to produce CG animation for the film.
Serkis was surrounded by a number of other actors, who too all wore the suits, presumably also playing apes.
Monkeying around: Andy received critical acclaim for his role in the previous film
Keri meanwhile wasn’t dressed in the high-tech gear as its thought she is taking on the role of the film’s human lead.
If the last film is anything to go by she is presumably one of the few surviving San Francisco residents after the collapse of human society.
Another new addition to the cast includes Gary Oldman who will play the leader of one of the few remaining human colonies.
James Franco has ruled out returning to the franchise, and will not even have a cameo role.
Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes is set to be released in May 2014.

Ready for action: Andy Serkis was spotted with markers on his face on set for Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes
The 48-year-old was seen with markers all over his face capturing the movements he was making to turn him into a realistic ape.The process electronically converts the movements of his face into a digital database, which in turn can then be used to produce CG animation for the film.

Human star: Keri Russell has joined the cast and appears to be playing a human while on set in Vancouver
She means business: It's thought that Keri plays a surviving scientist in the film
The actor is reprising his role as Caesar, who is the leader of ape civilization. Keri meanwhile wasn’t dressed in the high-tech gear as its thought she is taking on the role of the film’s human lead.
If the last film is anything to go by she is presumably one of the few surviving San Francisco residents after the collapse of human society.
Action: A number of actors were seen wearing the suit who presumably are all playing apes too
Move magic: The markers pick up their movements but not the way they look
Troops: As the last filmed finished the apes had well and truly taken over with Andy Serkis in charge
So
far all that is known about the plot is that a group of scientists are
trying to stay alive following the collapse, while Caesar rules the
apes. Another new addition to the cast includes Gary Oldman who will play the leader of one of the few remaining human colonies.
James Franco has ruled out returning to the franchise, and will not even have a cameo role.

Having fun: Kirk Acevedo was seen playing about in the forest with a blue bandana around his head
Ready to go? Jason Clarke looked like he had other things on his mind as he walked around on set
