He's been famously outspoken when it comes to his previous relationships.
And seeing her ex-boyfriend John Mayer appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Monday night seemed to be enough to drive Katy Perry out of town altogether.
The 28-year-old singer was spotted arriving at Los Angeles LAX Airport alongside her older sister, Angela, as she prepared to jet off for the evening.

Opting for a rock chick ensemble, the Wide Awake hitmaker looked effortlessly cool in a purple and white mullet-hem tie-dye dress, grey skinny jeans and a denim jacket with leather sleeve detailing.

Wearing her short raven locks poker straight, the California Gurl completed her jet-set look with a pair of black leather lace-up biker boots and a simple shoulder bag as she made her way through the airport.
A far cry from her usual chirpy expression, Katy - who parted ways with the 35-year-old musician for a second time late last month - looked a little glum as she prepared to fly off.

But the starlet didn't need to be worried as it would appear Mr Mayer has well and truly learned to keep his mouth shut when it comes to his girlfriends and matters of the heart.
Appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Monday night, the singer-songwriter spoke about the couple's ill-fated romance for the first time, admitting he struggles to find love and keep it.

 

'I’m on the same journey as everyone else. Coupling is a tricky thing,' John revealed in a segment on that airs on Tuesday.

Failed romance: John Mayer opened up a little to Ellen about his ex Katy Perry during a chat show appearance, saying that 'it's a private relationship still'

The chat show host got John to open up by beginning with: 'The last time I saw you. You were at the Grammy’s. You were sitting on the same row as Portia and I with Katy. And, I know Katy she is a good friend as well and I know that since then you’re not together any more.'
'Correct,' replied John, who was looking relaxed in cowboy hat, jeans, checkered shirt and black blazer as he promoted his new album Born and Raised.
'And, I just want to say I love you and my thoughts are with you. It’s nobody's business but…,' Ellen continued.

 

Learning his lesson: The 35-year-old musician admitted he is learning to be more private about matters of the heart after speaking out about his previous relationships in the past

 

The musician broke in by saying, 'Thank you. Listen, it was a very private relationship going in. It was a private relationship during and it’s a private relationship, still.
'I can understand asking the question based on some previous answers I have given but I have finally learned how to put the wall between one thing and the other. I’ve been much happier since then.'
Ellen further added: 'It is hard and you’re both in the business and you’re both working all the time. I just want you to be happy. That’s all.'
'I want everyone to be happy,' John responded. 'And you’re happy.'  
'I’m happy,' Ellen echoed.

 

Opening up: John has been promoting his new album Born and Raised and has adapted a healthier lifestyle including curbing his thirst for scotch

 

 

Since the break-up John has been occupying himself with his music - and improving his health.
'We were talking about health and what contributes to what happened with you,' Ellen said. 'You said, it was acid reflux?'
'Yeah, that’s half of it,' John conceded. 'Half of it is over use and singing and singing and singing. The other stuff is you know, what you put into your body. And, I’m getting to that age now your body doesn’t just shake everything off and it didn’t help that I really loved, love, loved scotch.
'It’s just like applying poison to your body. It’s like applying a shellac of poison. It’s just delicious, wonderful poison that makes you not care how late you’re out till or where you’re going.
'But I had to really say I like signing and writing more than I like delicious scotch so I had to really dial it down. And, I’m a little more boring now.'

Hot and cold: John and Katy started dating last summer, but she apparently couldn't foresee a long-term relationship and broke it off

Katy reportedly called it quits with the musician last month when she realised the couple had no long-term future together.
But a friend of the singer claimed the split is just them taking some time out to work out what they want from each other.
A source told HollywoodLife.com: 'It's more of a break than a break-up. You'll probably see them hanging out sooner then later and hooking up again. They remain very friendly. She's leaving the window open. They have both been so focused on work.'
Katy was previously married to British comedian Russell Brand, while Mayer has enjoyed high-profile relationships with the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Simpson and Taylor Swift in the past.
