Angelina Jolie wins copyright lawsuit and launches jewellery range

The copyright-infringement lawsuit accusing Angelina Jolie of plagarism in her film In the Land of Blood and Honey has been tentatively dismissed.



The suit was brought by writer James Braddock, who claimed Jolie's film was based on much of his 2007 novel, The Soul Shattering. Both works concern a love affair between a Serbian soldier and a Bosnian woman during the Bosnian war.



US district judge Dolly M Gee ruled that the contents of both stories were not substantially similar, with the film focusing on "betrayal, revenge and tragedy with little or no hope" while the book centred on "family, love and strength".Green beryl tablet earrings from Angelina Jolie's Style of Jolie range



The onus is now on Braddock to show why his complaint shouldn't be dismissed without prejudice before 12 April.



Meanwhile, Jolie has opened an all-girls primary school in Kabul as part of her visit to Afghanistan as a special envoy of UNHCR. The school will be the first of many, the actor has vowed, with profits from her new jewellery collection, the Style of Jolie, funding more institutions.

"Beyond enjoying the artistic satisfaction of designing these jewels, we are inspired by knowing our work is also serving the mutual goal of providing for children in need," Jolie told E! News.



The collection was conceived in collaboration with jeweller Robert Procop. Emeralds loom large, as do rectangles, with rings, earrings, a choker necklace and a "tennis bracelet" all showing variants on the theme. For those who don't like green, a diamond cuff is also available.
