Heavyweight Haye to face Charr in June as ex-world champion returns to ring

David Haye will face Manuel Charr on his return to the ring this summer.

The former heavyweight champion will take on the Lebanon-born German on June 29 at the Manchester Arena.

Haye believes he can force a fight with one of the Klitschko brothers by working his way into the mandatory position and sees Charr as a stepping stone to that end.

Ring return: Heavyweight David Haye will fight Manuel Charr in Manchester this summer

The 32-year-old Londoner has been out of action since last July when he stopped Dereck Chisora in their grudge match at Upton Park.

That followed a year-long absence after he was beaten by the younger Klitschko brother Wladimir in Hamburg.

His efforts to goad Vitali Klitschko into a fight have continually fallen on deaf ears and, after a stint in the I'm A Celebrity jungle, Haye decided on a different path.

He is no stranger to Charr having been surprised when he was called out by the German at the post-fight press conference last summer.

Charr, 28, has since taunted his rival by tweeting a poster which depicting the gory decapitation of his opponent.

In the ring, he has lost just once, to Vitali last September when their clash was stopped after the heavy underdog suffered a cut.

He has bounced back with two quick knockouts and currently holds the WBC International Silver heavyweight title.

Meanwhile, promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that Haye has agreed a long-term deal with his Matchroom company which will see his fights broadcast on Sky Sports for the first time since his defeat to Wladimir Klitschko in 2011.

Hearn is building a formidable stable of boxers and already boasts the likes of super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch, lightweight king Ricky Burns and welterweight contender Kell Brook.

George Groves, who shares a manager and trainer with Haye in Adam Booth, also joined Matchroom earlier this year.
