The girl, who was stabbed is identified as Leila Fowler, was discovered with multiple stab wounds Saturday inside her rural Valley Springs home. The girl’s brother didn’t recognize the attacker, Calaveras County authorities said. Their parents weren’t home at the time.According to reports, a 9-year-old girl was fatally stabbed Saturday in Northern California, and police are looking for the assailant.
Calaveras County sheriff’s official say the girl was killed at a house on Rippon Road in Valley Springs.
The girl’s 12-year-old brother was also in the home at the time. He called his parents to say that there was an intruder in the house. They then called 911, according to Fox 40.
The parents of the two children immediately called 911 and the nine-year-old girl was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The nine-year-old girl’s brother saw the intruder but he did not recognize his sister’s attacker.
According to a Calaveras County Sheriff media release on April 28, 2013, the attacker is described as a white or Hispanic male, about six feet tall with a muscular build. He was wearing a black long-sleeved shirt and blue pants. The suspect is considered to be armed and dangerous.
According to KTVU, the girl was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead. KCRA-TV in Sacramento reported that the girl had been stabbed.
“That’s just terrible, what can I say about it it’s a tragedy,” said neighbor Paul Gschweng.
The victim’s brother described the intruder as roughly 6 feet tall with a muscular build, and last seen wearing a black long-sleeved shirt with blue pants.
Authorities said the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.
“We’re doing a house to house search and in some cases we’re searching extensively into attics and storage sheds. It’s a difficult area to search. It’s rural, it’s remote,” a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s office explained.
Valley Springs is a town of about 3,500 some 60 miles southeast of Sacramento.
