Warnings: Zubeidat Tsarnaeva
The Boston Marathon bombing suspects’ mother was put on a CIA terrorism database at the same time as her elder son.Russian agents warned them that both Zubeidat Tsarnaeva and 26-year-old Tamerlan were militant Islamists. But post-Cold War distrust of the former Soviet Union may have meant officials failed to heed the warning, the US Congress was told yesterday.Andranik Migranyan, the director of the New York-based Institute for Democracy and Cooperation, claimed they “just didn’t pay enough attention”.Tamerlan was killed in a shoot-out with police a week ago. His 19-year-old brother Dzhokhar is in jail charged with using a weapon of mass destruction.Their mother could now be investigated by the US for her role in radicalising her sons. She denies they had anything to do with the bombing, claiming they are victims of a conspiracy.
