Wild moment a meth-fuelled cab driver tries to run a man down in wild road rage fight - as he admits to 30 offences including punching a policewoman in the face

A cab driver high on methamphetamine tried to plough down a man in his car, repeatedly thrusting the car at the complete stranger in a road rage incident.

Gurpreet Singh, 40, will serve 18 months behind bars following a string of offences committed between April 4 and August 27 this year in the Logan region, in Brisbane's south-east.

Singh's raft of charges included possessing the drug ice, two counts of dangerous driving as well as punching a female police officer in the face. 


The Beenleigh Magistrates Court was played footage of Singh's first instance of dangerous driving, which occurred on May 17.

Singh was driving a taxi when he began frantically weaving in and out of lanes to pass traffic. After repeatedly cutting off other vehicles, a verbal confrontation with a ute followed.

Moments later, Singh rammed into the back of a stationary Nissan Micra vehicle before accelerating to push the car forward towards traffic. 

When the irate car owner stepped out of the vehicle with his arms raised, Singh reversed and accelerated again, hitting the victim twice before fleeing the scene. 

Additional footage played to the court showed Singh punching a female constable in the face just days later on May 21, with his behaviour at the scene described as  'irrational and erratic'.

Singh assaulted the officer, with the unexpected punch to the right-side of her face causing her to stumble and lose her footing, according to the Courier Mail.

Court documents revealed the police were at the address in Woodridge for an unrelated manner.

The court also heard in late May, Singh continued to drive his work taxi despite having his licence terminated. On May 27, he entered a depot for 13CABS at Logan Central and helped himself to a vehicle.

For the next few days, Singh continued working, collecting numerous fares despite his licence termination.

Singh's defence lawyer Emma Kearney said a relationship breakdown in 2014 and the death of his father a few years ago resulted in his ice addiction.

She added that her client was 'unable to recall' much of his offending due to the level of ice he was consuming.   

Singh was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment with immediate court-ordered parole, having served 141 days of pre-sentence custody.

He was also disqualified from driving for two years and ordered to pay restitution of $2400.

Upon his release from jail, the Department of Home Affairs will decide if Singh stays in Australia or is deported to his native India.
