Pedestrian in her 20s dies after being struck by a bus in front of horrified shoppers outside Westfield Bondi Junction
A young woman has tragically died after being struck by a bus in Sydney's eastern suburbs in front of horrified shoppers.
Emergency services were called to Grafton Street, Bondi Junction, about 10.15am Wednesday following reports a woman, aged in her 20s, had been hit by a bus.
She was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for significant injuries but despite their best efforts died at the scene.
The bus driver was assessed at the scene and treated for shock.

A crime scene has been set up by officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command and will be examined by the Crash Investigation Unit.
Grafton Street is closed between Newland and Grosvenor streets in both directions. Buses are running normal routes.
Inspector Nadia Tomlinson, Duty Operations Manager for NSW Ambulance, said five crews were dispatched to the scene.
'Our paramedics worked tirelessly to provide the best treatment for the patient, but despite all their efforts there was nothing they could do,' she said.
'When we are called to any road accident, there are always complexities that present themselves, and we are trained and ready for any situation.

'We often get a limited description of the scene and need to prepare ourselves as quickly as possible to treat our patient.'
'The toughest thing is knowing that if a person is in a critical condition, it’s our responsibility to do everything we can to provide the life-saving treatment they need.'
A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
