Student, 18, fell over wall and plunged 20 feet to his death on university campus

Tributes have flooded in for a student who died in hospital after falling nearly 20-feet over a wall on the Strathclyde University Campus in Glasgow.

The 18-year-old student has been identified by classmates as Campbell Hunter.

The student, from Peebles, Scottish Borders, passed away on the 9th of December and trbutes have poured in for the beloved youngster.

However, some students have reacted angrily claiming that not enough has been done to prevent another similar accident happening in the future.

But the university has since pledged to modify the wall.

He also claimed the university's CCTV was not working and that he was 'surprised' nothing similar had happened before.

He added: 'Someone needs to be held accountable for such a waste of an amazing life.'

John's tweet has been liked thousands of times by other social media users supporting his request.

One said: 'Pay Campbell the respect he deserves and take action over this. You should be ashamed by the lack of response.'

Another posted: 'He was more than a student. Give him the respect that his life deserves and not sweep your mistakes under the carpet. Do better.'

A University of Strathclyde spokesman said: 'The university community is deeply saddened by the death of one our students. Campbell was well-known and liked, and his tutors describe him as a brilliant, engaged, and enthusiastic student.

'He had already made an excellent start to his studies, and will be missed enormously.

'Since the tragedy, our student support services have been in touch with Campbell's family and friends, and support remains available to anyone who has been affected.

'The area has been assessed and work will begin shortly to modify the wall to prevent anyone from sitting on it.'

At the time, Chief Inspector Craig Walker said: 'Around 1.50am on Wednesday, December 9, emergency services were called to a report of a man found injured in Rottenrow, Glasgow.

'An 18-year-old man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment where he died a short time later.

'His death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.'
