Officers believe he is about 50 years old, 5 ft 10 in tall and weighs 180 pounds.

The horrific random attack comes as New York authorities struggle to combat a surge in crime.

Rapes and burglaries were up in November 2020 in comparison to the same month in 2019.

November also saw a whopping 112.5 percent increase in Big Apple shootings.

Meanwhile, homicides have also spiked for both the month of November and the year as a whole.

November saw 28 people murdered across the five boroughs - an average of almost one per day. So far in 2020, there has been a 38.4 percent increase in murders

The crime spike comes amid a $1 billion cut to the NYPD's budget following passionate protests over the summer to defund the police.

'Whatever the challenge, our NYPD officers have shown innovation and determination to get the job done this year,' Commissioner Dermot Shea said in a statement.

'Our work to reimagine the kind of policing New Yorkers deserve is always evolving, in line with our agency's best traditions to reflect the needs of everyone in our city.'
