A fiancé is facing a life sentence for strangling his bride-to-be then wrapping her body in clingfilm before ordering a pizza.

Madog Rowlands, 23, from Wrexham, went shopping and ordered two takeaways after murdering call centre worker Lauren Griffiths 21.

He sat with her body wrapped in clingfilm, bin liners, and Sellotape for 24 hours before dialling 999 to say he had killed her.

Rowlands, who binged on drugs after strangling her in bed, laughed as he told paramedics Ms Griffiths had died the previous day.

The jury heard Rowlands later searched the internet for terms like 'how to show remorse' and 'credit for a guilty plea'.

He denied murder saying he killed Ms Griffiths 'by mistake' as he defended himself as she suffered a psychotic episode.

Prosecutor Michael Jones QC said: 'In the course of the 999 call he made he informed the operator Lauren was dead and he was responsible and had strangled her by mistake.

'However having killed Lauren as he says by mistake he didn't make that 999 call immediately.

'Having killed her, at various times after her death he went to buy items from a shop, partially wrapped her body in cling film, Sellotape and bin liners.'

Mr Jones said Rowlands also 'removed cash from his own account as well as Ms Griffiths's, ordered and arranged for the delivery of drugs, ordered takeaway food for himself including Subway and Domino's, and just before the pizza arrived he tried to set up a Netflix account on his mobile phone'.

He added: 'It wasn't until 24 hours after killing her that he contacted the emergency services to report her death.'

Newport Crown Court heard Rowlands later searched the internet for 'six steps to getting the best result in court' and tips on showing remorse.

In a statement to police he said: 'I had no intention to harm, kill, or hurt Lauren. We were deeply in love. I was trying to defend her from herself and had to defend myself.'

The court heard Rowlands had previously been arrested for strangling Ms Griffiths after she broke his laptop but she did not want to proceed with charges.

Rowlands was convicted of murder at Newport Crown Court following a 10-day trial.

Judge Daniel Williams adjourned sentence for a psychiatric report and a pre-sentence report.
