As Sydney's Northern Beaches prepare to lock up for three days after a cluster of 28 cases appears seemingly overnight… Bondi residents are ignoring social distancing and dancing up a storm outside

Carefree residents have ignored social distancing at Bondi beach despite Sydney's emerging coronavirus cluster. 

Shocking footage of packed beachgoers dancing at a drum circle was shared to the Bondi Community Noticeboard Facebook page on Thursday. 

The revelry came as the Northern Beaches was ordered to lock up for the next three days after an explosion of 28 confirmed coronavirus cases.

The footage showed hundreds of beachgoers enjoying a sunset swim at Bondi beach before panning to reveal the raucous dance party.  

Bondi residents clapped, hugged and danced along to the lively beat on a grassy hill overlooking the beach.

Several shirtless drummers enthusiastically banged the instruments while more relaxed onlookers watched the commotion in fold out chairs.      

All Sydneysiders have been urged to avoid visiting the Northern Beaches after the sudden COVID-19 outbreak. 

NSW Health said 'everyone should monitor for even the mildest of symptoms and come forward for testing immediately if they appear'. 

Residents at the Northern Beaches were told to keep within their household groups and work from home if possible.   

'People in the Northern Beaches have been asked to stay home as much as possible over the next three days,' a NSW Health statement said.

'This includes working from home where possible, not visiting aged care facilities or hospitals unless essential, avoiding unnecessary gatherings...

'And high-risk venues such as clubs, restaurants, places or worships and gyms, and avoiding unnecessary travel outside of the Northern Beaches area.'

Thousands of shoppers have also been told to get tested and isolate after an urgent coronavirus alert was issued for several popular venues.

Furious commenters slammed the beachside footage and labelled the partygoers as 'morons'. 

'Wrong on so many levels,' one user wrote.

'Good to see the public health order in practice,' another user joked.    

'Good social distancing Bondi. Nightmare.'
