Police have urged the parents of a young boy filmed wandering the streets alone in his pyjamas at midnight to come forward to confirm he is safe.  

Officers worked through the night to try to track down the child in New Waltham, near Grimsby, Lincolnshire.

The youngster is thought to be a boy, no older than eight, and wearing dark pyjamas and slippers.

No child has been reported missing and police have urged his or her parents to come forward to confirm the youngster is safe and well.

'Whilst we don't like to speculate, it is possible that the child has left a property to go to a friend's and returned without waking anyone in the house, or has left in their sleep and doesn't remember this, again being in bed when they've woken up,' Detective Inspector Kerry Bull said. 

'This of course is not a criminal offence and we would urge any parent who suspects that this may have been their child to make contact with us in order to bring this matter to a conclusion.'

CCTV footage from a house shows the child walking across a driveway at around 12.04am.

Jason, who saw the boy out of his window in the middle of the night, spoke of his shock this morning.

He said: 'It was just so strange and it happened so quickly. I was in the lounge and saw him going past the window.

'There was obviously something not right if he's in his PJs at that time. I shouted to him out the window but he was already going around the corner of the house. By the time I'd shouted to the wife and gone out the door he was gone.

'As I said to the officers, he was only small, around 8 or 10 years old.'

Another person who lives nearby told the Grimsby Telegraph:  'My neighbour had a knock on the door at about 3am from the police. Just really hope they're alright with the weather being the way it is.'

Another added: 'It's been going on all night, there has been a police helicopter and all-sorts.

'It started about midnight I think, someone saw a child walking past their home and reported because they were worried.'

: 'Our search remains ongoing for a child reported to have been wandering around the Harvey Walk area of New Waltham in the early hours of this morning.

'The local community will continue to see a large police presence in the area as we continue our enquiries and offer reassurance to residents.

There was a heavy police presence on the street where he was spotted early this morning as officers continue to search for the child

'We are continuing to door knock, search the New Waltham area and speak with those out and about locally. Local schools and partner agencies are also helping with our enquiries.

'We appreciate how distressing reports of this nature can be and I just want to offer reassurance that at this stage of our search, we don't believe the child has come to harm and we are just trying to locate them to make sure they are safe and well.

'We would continue to appeal for the public to contact us if they have any information that could help. We are particularly interested in any CCTV footage in the area from just before midnight this morning.
