Barking mad! Dog owner ordered to pay more than £800 after taking his pooch for a walkies in lockdown

A dog owner was forced to pay £811 after he was pulled over by police when he tried to take his pup for a walk. 

Keiran Davies-Evans, 28, from Carmarthen, West Wales, was stopped by police during lockdown on May 4 when he was on his way to his favourite beach.   

Llanelli Magistrates Court heard how Davies-Evans had breached Covid-19 regulations against non-essential travel.

He failed to turn up for the hearing at Llanelli Magistrates Court which went ahead in his absence.

Davies-Evans was ordered to pay £811 in a fine, costs, and victim surcharge.

At the time the journey was made, people in Wales were not allowed to travel more than five miles from their home for any reason except work or to purchase essentials. 

Under current Welsh Government rules, people are not permitted to travel from England 'unless they have a reasonable excuse' such as travelling to a workplace, place of education or to provide care.

As part of enforcing the lockdown, Welsh traffic police have set up checkpoints across the country's borders.
