Allow Odette Toilette to help you find your new signature scent

THE FINAL FRAGRANCE FRONTIER

Signature scents are all very well, but clinging to them regardless of age, changing tastes or the turn of the seasons is a sure sign you’re in a beauty rut.

Yet finding a new perfume can seem intimidating. As the Heston Blumenthal of perfumes, Odette Toilette (aka perfumer Lizzie Ostrom, below) creates themed events that teach your nose to know its violet leaf from its lentisk – and put the fun back into fragrance finding.

Her forthcoming Scent of Space night (23 April), inspired by outer space, will entice you with the bitter almond-like aroma of Comet Elenin via Thierry Mugler Alien (from £32, boots.com), the Nasa-cultivated rose in Shiseido Zen Secret Bloom (£57.50, johnlewis.com) and Cloon Keen Atelier’s new angelica and orris Lune de Givre (£65, lessenteurs.com). Emerge in a fragrant cloud.

The evening costs £12, at The Book Club,100 Leonard Street, London EC2; to book, visit odettetoilette.com.

  TAKE A BOWIE

No Fashion Week goes by without the backstage pros citing David Bowie as a source of colour inspiration.

Opening next Saturday, the V&A’s David Bowie Is exhibition (vam.ac.uk) reminds us all to reference Kenzo and Moncler Gamme Rouge, then kick-start our summer colour-blocking beauty regimes with a swipe of Nars Soft Touch Shadow Pencil in Corcovado (£18, narscosmetics.co.uk), a dash of Clinique Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes in Bountiful Beige and Pink & Plenty (£16 each, clinique.co.uk) and a swish of limited-edition BareMinerals Flawless Definition Mascara in Aqua Blast (£16, bareminerals.co.uk).

The beauty at Moncler Gamme Rouge's spring 2013 show took colour inspiration from pop star David Bowie

THIS WEEK we realised that the empty pots of Amber Noir candles (£8, shearer-candles.com) are the perfect for storing Hourglass make-up brushes (from £20, zuneta.com). How’s that for pot luck?

GET GARGLING with Aesop’s new mouthwash (£17, aesop.com) – the spearmint and aniseed freshener that lends an old-school charm to daily hygiene.

Tweet your questions to @YOUMAGBella and we’ll answer the best. Or you can contact Bella at bella.blissett@you.co.uk
