Perhaps Sherlock likes the deerstalker after all: Benedict Cumberbatch

In the last episode of Series 2 of Sherlock, we saw the man himself wince after being given a deerstalker hat as a gift.
However, as Benedict Cumberbatch films Series 3, it looks like the detective may have changed his mind about the iconic headgear. The actor, 36, was spotted wearing a grey deerstalker as he filmed scenes with co-star Martin Freeman in London on Wednesday.

Suits you Sir! Benedict Cumberbatch wears a deerstalker as he films scenes for the third series of Sherlock in Central London on Wednesday

Giving a Victorian edge to his 21st century costume: Benedict looked in good spirits as he chatted to cast and crew on location
Sherlock, who faked his own death in the finale of Series 2, is seen emerging from a doorway to a crowd of paparazzi - presumably stunned to see the detective is alive.
As fans of the show will know, Sherlock wasn't too enamoured with the distinctive hat when he was given one on-screen.
In the Series 2 finale of the BBC show The Reichenbach Fall, Sherlock Holmes was presented with a deerstalker by DI Lestrade and his Scotland Yard colleagues as thank you gift for helping solve a case.

Winding your way down on Baker Street: Benedict leaves a Georgian townhouse, which is doubling for 221B Baker Street
Although he clearly doesn't like it, he is urged to wear it by his sidekick John Watson (Martin Freeman), who later muses it is 'no longer a deerstalker. That’s a Sherlock Holmes hat'.
Although author Arthur Conan Doyle never featured a deerstalker hat in his Sherlock stories, the headgear has long been associated with the fictional detective since Sidney Paget's illustrations and subsequent screen adaptations.
Filming on Series 3 started in Bristol two weeks ago, with the first episode said to be loosely based on The Adventure Of The Empty House, in which Conan Doyle revealed how Sherlock had faked his death in The Reichenbach Fall.

I think it suits you: Benedict and Martin chat in between takes

Back from the dead: Sherlock is mobbed as he leaves his Baker Street home
Among the new castmembers are Martin's real-life partner, Mr Selfridge actress Amanda Abbington.
It has been rumoured Amanda will be playing Watson's love interest Mary Morstan, who the doctor goes on to marry.
In August, show creator Steven Moffat hinted at the forthcoming series: 'These three words might be a title, it might be a clue. They are Rat. Wedding. Bow.'

How did he do it? Hopefully Sherlock will explain to Watson how he faked his own death in Series 2
With broadcast of Series 3 scheduled for later this year, it's been quite a wait for the viewers of Sherlock.
The Series 2 finale, which was first broadcast on 15 January 2012, followed evil Jim Moriarty's (Andrew Scott) plot to discredit and kill Sherlock.
The detective was then seen faking his suicide watched by Watson.

Drawing a crowd: The alfresco scenes proved a draw for fans

Mobbed: It was difficult to tell where the fans ended and the extras pretending to be paparazzi began
The episode ended with Sherlock watching Watson and Mrs Hudson at his grave from a distance.
Moffat felt that he and co-creator Gatiss had outdone Conan Doyle in their version of Holmes' fall and added that there was still 'a clue everybody's missed'.
This prompted over 2million people to watch the episode on BBC iPlayer in an attempt to find out how Sherlock pulled off the stunt.

Hard work: Benedict and new cast member Amanda Abbington rush into the street as they film Sherlock at night

Bron to be wild: Sherlock eyes up a conveniently placed motorcycle as he wanders into the street
Fans of the show have become so obsessed with the detective series that one of the producers has had to intervene.
Sue Vertue has pleaded with hardcore Sherlock fans to not spoil the show for others by posting locations of where they are filming the third series.
On Tuesday Sue wrote an open letter to popular fan site Sherlockology and said: 'Hi, Sue Vertue here.

Nice nepotism: Amanda is married to Dr Watson actor Martin Freeman

Taking refuge: Amanda wrapped up warm and stood under an umbrella in between filming

'As many of you are aware, we'll soon be embarking on our first London leg of filming for series 3.

'I'm also aware that there is quite a lot of speculation about where we're shooting when. I can't stress how much we the Producers and Benedict, Martin and the rest of the cast appreciate your love and dedication to our show - we'll endeavour to live up to your expectations for Series 3.'

She continued: 'What I am nervous about is that our London shooting schedule is punishing and will really give us very little time to interact with you. The actors really hope you understand that.

Fighting talk: Martin Freeman, as Watson, gets to grips with a rather menacing looking man

And sleep: The mysterious man injects Watson with something that makes him less aggressive

Out for the count: Watson looks doomed as the men take him down
'Also, and I know this is probably asking a lot, the majority of fans and indeed ourselves would REALLY appreciate it if you didn't post pictures or spoilers or ideally our daily locations.
'Thanks for your understanding. Sue x.'

Back to business: A day later Benedict was in character again as he arrived for another day of filming with his castmates

And action... The actor was seen stepping out of a car on Thursday as he filmed yet more scenes
