Everton take 'new Pienaar' on trial as Moyes looks at South African Claasen



Everton are giving a trial to South African midfielder Daylon Claasen.


The skilful 23-year-old was a former target for Mark Hughes at Queens Park Rangers and is hoping to finally earn his breakthrough Premier League move by impressing David Moyes.


Claasen plays for Belgian side Lierse but is out of contract in the summer with other English clubs also showing interest.


Like Everton midfielder and compatriot Steven Pienaar, Claasen started his career at Ajax Cape Town before signing for Ajax in Holland after trial spells with Real Madrid and Espanyol.

He made his senior debut for in his homeland aged just 16 years, nine months and 29 days and his since gone on to earn a call-up to the national side.


His agent Ivan Modia said: 'He is a player very similar to Steven Pienaar, Ajax Amsterdam's school. He has been labelled as his successor in the national team.


'A very good technical player who was No 1 in ball recovery in Belgiam last season due to his work-rate. He'd suit perfectly to Everton and he'd definitely be a steal coming on a free transfer.'
