'Sordid and derivative': Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly's film Midnight in the Switchgrass is SAVAGED by critics... but some reviews praise their performances

A real-life celerity couple making a movie together rarely ends well, which appears to be the case for Megan Fox and her boyfriend Machine Gun Kelly.

Fox and the rapper - real name Colson Baker - famously met onset of Midnight in the Switchgrass in March last year and while it made for a passionate romance, the experience has resulted in a poorly reviewed film.

The thriller - about two FBI agents investigating a string of murders that appear to be related - was blasted by critics on Thursday, resulting in a dismal 17% score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

Both Fox, 35, and Baker, 31, skipped the premiere for the film this week, which was attended by its director Randall Emmett and his Vanderpump Rules fiancé La La Kent.

The rapper plays a pimp in an uncredited role while, while Fox takes one of the leads as FBI agent Rebecca Lombardi starring alongside Bruce Willis.

The New York Times' Ben Kenigsberg called the project 'sordid and derivative' saying 'clearly, no one even bothered to proofread the onscreen text.'

The iHeart Radio Music Awards took place in Los Angeles on Thursday evening, and the A-listers were out very much enjoying their return to the red carpet.

Megan Fox joined the line up and nailed this season's candy pink trend in a satin corset and trouser combo by Mach & Mach.

Featuring fashion forward splits to the hem, they're the ideal statement for summer evenings and we love how Megan has teamed the look with silver heels also from Mach & Mach.

Megan's trousers are now sold out, but why not get to know the label with a click right.

Or, think pink like Megan with the colour pop trousers from I Saw It First, PrettyLittleThing and The Attico in the carousel below.

'The atmosphere is thoroughly sleazy without being distinctive, and everything about the movie - the emotionless line readings, the half-baked back stories - exudes a terse functionality,' the review adds.

Mark Hanson of Slant Magazine gave the film zero stars, saying: 'Randall Emmett’s directorial debut is virtually indistinguishable from the scores of cheap VOD action thrillers that he’s produced to date.'

The Hollywood Reporter called it an 'poorly plotted and agonizingly acted directorial debut' that 'doesn't come close to fulfilling even the lowest of expectations.'

However, the same review notes that one of the most surprisingly good parts is Machine Gun Kelly, who is 'one of the most consistent and invested' in the cast.

'With such a star-powered lineup, one could reasonably expect some juicy acting, but some of the performances have a phoned-in quality - as if the actors didn’t want to be there,' the review added.

Film writer Tessa Smith, although giving the film a one star review, hailed Fox, saying: 'Megan Fox is the standout performance over Bruce Willis, which was a complete shock, but even that cannot save this movie.'
