Texas State student, 21, has been missing for SEVEN days after crashing his car on the way home for Christmas holiday

A 21-year-old Texas college student has been missing for seven days after crashing his car on the way home for Christmas break.

Jason Landry, 21, was due to make a 165-mile journey from Texas State University to his hometown of Missouri City, outside Houston, on December 14, when he disappeared.

His family were woken up by police officers at 2am who had found Jason's car on a secluded road in Caldwell County, near the city of Luling, about 30 minutes from the university's campus in San Marcus.

It had been involved in a one-vehicle crash, troopers said, sometime that evening or early morning, when temperatures dropped to around 36F/2C.

Jason's wallet and cellphone were found in the car and around it, but there was no sign of the student.

For the last week, a 40-person team has been involved in the search and rescue effort, including sniffer dogs, horses and drone.

Dogs traced his scent from the car to a nearby pond, but when the pond was drained, there was no trace of Jason.

His family held a prayer vigil at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Missouri City on Sunday evening.

Jason's father Kent Landry, who is a pastor at the church, said he is 'living the worst dream of every parent.'

He added: 'I stand here almost a week later and I still don’t know where my son is and I cannot tell you how hard that is', as reported by FoxNews.com.

'I pray my son is alive and pray that someone is taking care of him.'

On the church's Facebook page a message was posted that urged people to keep praying and quoted from Hebrews 11:1: 'Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.'

Pastor Andrew Keyes said during the vigil, which was held outdoors due to the coronavirus: 'This has been a hard year for people in many ways. And we need a reminder right now that God is with us right now, even in our pain, and even in our hurt.'

Born in 1999, Jason is 6'1" tall and described as being a white male with brown, medium length hair and possibly a goatee.

It is not known what clothes he was wearing when he went missing.

Kent Landry said he was awoken by a phone call at 2 a.m. on Monday, December 14 from a state trooper.

Sergeant Deon Cockrell, spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, said the crash involving Jason's car was reported around 12.30am on Monday December 14, on Salt Flat Road in south Caldwell County.

'The car got off the road and spun around, and the back driver-side trunk, bumper and the side of the car took most of the impact,' Cockrell said Thursday.

Cockrell said emergency crews found some of Landry's personal items outside of the car at the scene of the crash, including a backpack that helped authorities identify him and contact his family.

He said authorities currently do not believe anything was taken from Landry's vehicle.

Search and rescue teams have been combing everything within a two-mile radius of the crash for a week with no sign of the student.

They are due to use a drone to fly over the site once again, then analyze the video, looking for clues.

Investigators will also take DNA from the car and gather any other evidence.

Searchers say the area that his car was found is pitch dark when the sun goes down.

Texas Search and Rescue posted photos of the mission on Facebook and said: 'We are so grateful for all of the TEXSAR members who came out today and this past week to take part in the search for Jason Landry. Your dedication is so important to all involved. Thank you.'
