Many past pop stars who have tried to resurrect their careers on The Voice have failed to impress.
But Cleo Higgins of 1990s trio Cleopatra is clearly the exception to the rule, as she wowed all four coaches while opening Saturday night's show.
Having her the pick of Tom Jones, Jessie J, Will.i.am and Danny O'Donoghue, after they all turned around, the 30-year-old looked overwhelmed after her rendition of Love On Top.
'I am so tired of people recoginisig
me for my history and not hearing what I'm capable of doing as a
performer now. I've grown up just like everyone else,' she said ahead of
her performance.
'We had this crazy career - our boss was Madonna, we performed at Wembley with the Spice Girls,' she added.
As soon as the 30-year-old started singing, Jessie J turned around in her chair, clearly impressed with what she heard.
Danny was quick to follow, with Tom and Will.i.am turning their chairs around later on in the song, loving Cleo's voice.
'Honestly I'm blown away, technically
you were doing things that I want to learn how to do,' said Jessie in a
bid to secure the singer for her team.
'I think you are a genuine star, you were back then and you are now,' added Danny.
'Coming on to my team you'll get not just a coach but a friend. I want to make you not just a great singer but a great artist,' said Will.i.am.
'I'm going to follow my heart, because when I don't it leads me in bad directions.' said Cleo ' I'm going to choose Will.i.am.'
Barry James Thomas, 49, was
hoping to break away from his famous family, including Corrie's Ryan
Thomas and Emmerdale's Adam, who showed up to support him.
Wearing double denim, the
wannabe star sung and played guitar to The Boys Are Back in Town, hoping
that one of the four coaches would turn around for him.
Unfortunately for him, none of them did, although all of the coaches had positive thing to say about him, and he was magnanimous in defeat.
'I
thought you were rocking and smoking and I was hoping that Danny would
turn around because you guys would have been good together,' admitted
Will.
'I think everyone has to understand
with a show like this we're just listening to the tone of your voice - I
just think that the song choice was a bit predictable,' said Jessie.
Rock-loving Mitchell Emms, 19, was next up, after performing on Stars in Their Eyes as Kurt Cobain years ago and wowing the crowd.
The long-haired singer performed to The Foo Fighters song the Best Of You, impressing Danny straight away, provoking him to turn his chair almost immediately.
As none of the other coaches turned their chairs, Mitchell was automatically placed in The Script star's team, which he seemed pleased about.
'I think you had a wonderful voice -
but I wanted a little more light and shade - you started here and had
nowhere to go,' said Jessie.
'I'm so looking forward to working with you and I think you're going to be a really, really big star,' said Danny after securing the teen.
Elise Evans, 18, from South Wales, was hoping to get away from her small hometown and turn herself into a singing superstar.
The teenage singer performed to Something's Got A Hold On Me, showcasing her powerful vocal tones.
Tom Jones was the first to turn his chair around, clearly impressed with the singer, while Jessie, Will and Danny all turned around towards the end of the song.
'We're the only two Welsh people on
this stage - that's all I have to say,' said Tom, in a bid to get the
blonde singer to pick him.
'I turned around because I knew there was more and you gave more towards the end,' said Jessie, who clearly wanted to get another girl on her team.
'This is so amazing to me, but I've been to two concerts in my life - one was Tom and the other was Jessie,' she said.
'This decision has to be from here,' she said, tapping her chest. 'And Jessie I love you so much, but I'm going to go with Tom.'
Emma Louise Jackson, 23, from Blackpool was the next to try her luck in front of the panel by singing River Deep Mountain High.
Unfortunately for her, none of the judges turned their seats: 'It was just so cheesy - that's why I didn't turn my chair, but well done,' said Jessie.
'I feel the same way, it wasn't that it was bad, it was just a little too clubby for me,' said Tom.
'I saw on Twitter you were looking for somewhere to go in Manchester the other day, Will, and I know all the bars and clubs and places to go,' offered up feisty Emma Louise before leaving the stage.
Young busker and student Connor Scott from Belfast, who has just turned 18, sang Starry Eyed by Ellie Goulding.
Danny loved the tone of the youngster's voice and decided to turn around, although once again he was the only one.
Straight through to the battle round on Danny's team, the red-haired teen seemed over the moon.
'I think you're a superstar but I didn't turn around because I knew you'd be better suited to Danny,' admitted Will.
After his performance, the ladies man popped backstage to meet Connor's sisters who were big fans.
Amy Wilkinson, 20, applied for The Voice last year but was so nervous that she didn't show up for the audition.

'I think you needed to do more gigs, the more you do the more relaxed you'll be and more confident you'll become,' said Tom.
'You started off really really good, but when the crowd started cheering it just shook you up,' said Will.

Maxine and Shelly, who together are Diva, swapped performing in working men's clubs to perform on The Voice on Saturday.
The double act seemed to impress Jessie, who turned around when she heard that it was two people performing, with Tom not close behind.
'I loved your harmonies, I though they worked great together,' said Jessie.
'We've discussed it all day long and Jessie we love you, but we're going to go with team Tom,' said Diva.
The next act was 23-year-old was Leah Mcall from Northen Ireland, who sang Rita Ora's RIP.
Jessie was the first to turn around, while Will waited until the very last moment to press his button,
'You have a lot of style and class and flow,' said Will. 'But really Leah, woah.'
'The obvious choice is Jessie, so to compete with that I'm going to have to work extra hard,' said Will, trying his best.
'No one in the charts sounds like you at the moment, that's why I'd love to coach you,' said Jessie.
'I think that I'm going to go with Will,' said Leah, after the war of words, leaving Jessie disappointed.
Lovelle Hill from South East London sang Rihanna's Diamonds, impressing Will.i.am who turned, as did Jessie and Tom at the very last minute.
'The reason I turned around is that we've seen so many great singers - but you are the best,' said Will.
'I didn't turn around straight away because I wanted you to work for it,' said Jessie, in a bid to get the singer.
'I'd probably go with Jessie,' offered Danny. 'Because there are similar singers to you already in Will's team.'
'Believe in me because I believe in you,' said Jessie, fighting back against Will.
'Because I feel like you can make me amazing, I'm going to pick you Jessie,' said Lovelle.
Lemuel Knights, 18, who is a major Jessie J fan, was hoping that his idol would be the one to turn around and want him.

Danny, 32, boasted: 'I've been in the business 15, 16 years, The Script is just the tip of the iceberg. If you go into their teams, statistically you'd have a much worse chance of trying to get out of theirs than you would mine.
'I don't have any singer like you on my team.'
