woman 45 dies after falling 50 feet from the cliff edge after 'tripping over' while hiking in the golden gate national park
A California woman has died after falling 50 feet from a cliff edge while hiking on the Mori Point Trail at the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
Witnesses told police they saw the woman trip and fall from the trail at around 9:40am on Sunday.
The San Mateo County Coroner on Monday named the woman as 45-year-old Yvonne Rogan of Daly City, just south of San Francisco.
The Pacifica Police Department said they responded to the scene, just north of the San Marlo parking lot at Rockaway Beach.
They found Rogan unresponsive on the beach 50 feet below the trail, and she was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Witnesses said that they had seen Yvonne Rogan, 45, trip and fall off the trail down to the beach below; according to the Golden Gate National Park Conservancy, the cliffs of the Mori Point Trail are 'notoriously crumbly'
The San Mateo County Coroner has yet to declare Rogan's cause of death
The Golden Gate National Park Conservancy has previously said the cliffs are 'notoriously crumbly,' according to guidance for hikers posted to its website.
Golden Gate National Recreation Area is the fifth deadliest park in the country, according to a 2017 study by Outside.
It had 85 recorded deaths between January of 2006 and September of 2016 - just seven fewer than the deaths recorded during the same period at Yellowstone.
