The body of Michael Robinson, 40, was discovered in Brooklyn's Gowanus Canal, near 25th St, around 12.45pm on September 2.

According to police, Robinson was still wearing his headphones around his neck along with a baseball cap on his head when they pulled him from the canal.

It is still unclear how Robinson ended up in the canal but his sister, Natasha Robinson, 39, believes her brother might have been walking to her apartment in Red Hook in the middle of the storm.

'He was my heart,' said Natasha. 'He loved his kids, my kids. He would take on your family and consider them his family.'

Natasha said her brother was temporarily residing in a shelter just a few blocks from the canal when he passed.

Robinson was set to be relocated to a permanent residence later this month, his sister said.

'He had hard times just like anyone,' said Natasha. 'But he was a devoted father. He spent time with five of his kids at their mother's place on Staten Island last Tuesday before he died.'

Robinson grew up in Brooklyn and Queens and is one of five siblings. According to his sister, he worked as a handyman, repairing everything from 'electronics to cars to stuff around your house.'

Natasha hopes authorities can provide her with more details as to how her brother died.

'I can never feel better because he's gone but I want to know for sure that it was an accident,' she said. 'I want his kids to be at ease knowing the truth.'
