Three arrested on suspicion of murdering boy, five, found dead in Welsh river: Man, 39, woman, 30, and boy, 13, are questioned by police investigating incident

Three people - including a 13-year-old - have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a five-year-old boy was found dead in a river in Wales.

The boy, who has yet to be identified, was reported missing from his south Wales home at around 5.45am on Saturday morning.

His body was later recovered in the River Ogmore, and he was pronounced dead after being taken to Bridgend's Princess of Wales Hospital. 

Dozens of officers, forensics teams and police divers have been searching the playing field and paths between Sarn and the river where the boy's body was found.

A 39-year-old man, a 30-year-old woman and a 13-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of murder, a spokeswoman for South Wales Police said today.

All are from the Bridgend area and detectives say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

A force spokeswoman said: 'South Wales Police can confirm that following reports of concerns for a missing 5 year old boy in Sarn, Bridgend, and the subsequent finding of the body in the Ogmore River near Pandy Park, three people have been arrested.

'A 39 year male, 30 year female and 13 year old male, all from the Bridgend area, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently in police custody. We are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident.

'Anyone who has any information in relation to the incident can contact the Major Crime Team directly.'

It comes as large parts of Pandy Park in Sarn were sealed off as police forensics teams carried out a fingertip search of the area.

Specially trained officers are supporting the boy's family, Chief Inspector Geraint White of South Wales Police said yesterday.

In an earlier statement, released after the discovery of the boy's body, Mr White said: 'This is a tragic incident in which a young child has sadly lost their life.

'We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or who has any information, to get in touch.

Specially trained officers are supporting the boy's family and police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward 

'We would ask the public not to speculate about this incident on social media as this is an active investigation.

'If you have any information that can help, please report this to us.'

He added: 'Our thoughts are with the family and we are supporting them in every way we can.'

It comes after shocked neighbours told how they were woken to screams coming from outside the boy's family home.

One neighbour said: 'I could hear the mum screaming for her son. She was shouting 'the back door was open' and calling for him.

'A short while later the police turned up and they've been here ever since.'

Other neighbours alongside Pandy Park said they were woken by shouts coming from the downstairs property.

One woman said: 'I could hear a row going off. I think the mother was on the phone to the police.'

Another woman said: 'The police have been going door-to-door and asking questions and they've been looking in the park all day.'
