Pregnant wife of San Jose Sharks star Evander Kane accuses him of 'throwing games to pay off gambling debts' and slams model Mara Teigen for 'sleeping with him': NHL investigates cheat claims

The pregnant wife of a San Jose Sharks player who alleged her husband was a compulsive gambler who tanked his own team’s games to pay off a massive debt has publicly accused a Los Angeles model of being his mistress.

Anna Kane unleashed a series of explosive posts on Instagram in which she claimed her husband, Evander Kane, intentionally threw hockey games while leaving the family destitute and unable to buy baby formula for their infant daughter.

Anna, whose claim has prompted an investigation by the National Hockey League, also took aim at Mara Teigen, the 26-year-old model who has been dubbed ‘Angelina 2.0’ for her uncanny resemblance to Angelina Jolie.

Evander released a statement on social media early on Saturday morning categorically denying Anna's allegations. He accused his estranged wife of fabricating the betting allegations in an attempt to destroy his career.

The Sharks forward also accused Anna of using their infant daughter, Kensington, as 'leverage' while restricting his access to her.

DailyMail.com has reached out to Mara Teigen seeking comment.

Anna tagged Teigen in a post on Saturday, writing: ‘So do u feel good about yourself f*****g my husband when I’m at home pregnant and he can’t even give me money to buy my daughter formula?

‘Do you feel amazing with him? After he cheated on you so much that you broke up now you can do this to another woman?’

Anna added in her post: ‘Crazy he said how ugly you were and how much surgery you had...And how you had old rich sugar daddies while you were together?

‘He cheated on you so much and you back to him? I’m shocked.’

Evander and Teigen dated before his marriage to Anna. In 2015, while Evander was still with the Buffalo Sabres, he tried to win Teigen back by paying for a billboard ad with her headshot above 1 Oak, a trendy Los Angeles club.

Teigen and Evander started dating in 2014, when the Canadian began his hockey career with the Winnipeg Jets. Their first date was a Knicks-Bulls game at Madison Square Garden.

Anna also dropped another bombshell, writing: 'How does the NHL let a compulsive gambling addict still play when he's obviously throwing games to win money? Hmm maybe someone needs to address this.'

'Can someone ask Gary Bettman how they let a player gamble on his own games? Bet and win with bookies on his own games?'

She also claimed that she was forced to sell her wedding ring in order to buy formula for their baby while Evander allegedly partied in Europe.

Evander on Sunday vehemently denied the allegations.

‘Unfortunately I would like to address the completely FALSE accusations that my estranged wife and soon to be ex wife has made against me,’ the Sharks forward wrote in his statement.

‘Even against the advice of my legal team I feel strongly that the public and fans hear this directly from me.

‘I have NEVER gambled/bet on Hockey, NEVER gambled/bet on a Sharks game, NEVER gambled/bet on any of my games and NEVER thrown a hockey game.

‘The facts are I personally had my best season of my career last year and was the most consistent I’ve been throughout any season, I’m proud of that.

‘I love the game of Hockey and would never do any of what was alleged.

‘I look forward to cooperating fully with the league’s investigation, having my name clear and looking forward to this upcoming season.’

Anna also accused her husband of throwing her out of their home. She posted a message on Instagram that included a screenshot of an email she claims to have received from Evander.

‘Good morning, as we have discussed recently I will be coming to see infant Kensington on august 8th and 9th as agreed,’ the email purportedly from Evander reads.

‘There will be no change in that plan. Also I please ask you to leave a house key to the Richland Property when you move out in the next day or two under the mat at front door as the Relator who is selling the property needs access to show it.

‘Also please leave the keys to my green g wagon in the house and have the car parked in the garage when you leave.

‘Thanks for your cooperation in advance,

‘Evander Kane.’

Anna commented on the email, writing: ‘What a guy. This is when the addiction is more important then anyone and everything.

‘My heart goes out to anyone who has to deal with loved ones addicted to anything in any form who put that before their own family.’

Evander denied his wife's claims that he is a deadbeat father who doesn't provide for his infant daughter.

‘I love my daughter,’ he said in his statement. ‘I will and always have taken care of my daughter in every way possible.

‘I have always made sure her mother has had everything she’s needed and more.

‘I have tried to de-escalate our divorce issues and be as civil and calm as anyone in this position could.

‘I have tried to set up FaceTime calls and visits with her.

‘I have had some FaceTime calls but not every day as I would like to because of being restricted by her mom.

‘She has refused me to see her and has unfortunately tried to use my daughter as leverage.

‘I will continue to always take care of my family that goes without question.’

Evander’s statement continued: ‘I would encourage people to realize that someone who goes to this length to try and jeopardize someone’s career with lies is mentally unwell.

‘I hope this is the last time I will be publicly addressing any further misrepresentations of me as a father.’

On Saturday night, the NHL said in a statement it was made aware of the posts.

'The integrity of our game is paramount and the League takes these allegations very seriously. We intend to conduct a full investigation and will have no further comment at this time.'

Evander is entering the fourth season of a seven-year, $49 million deal.

In January, he filed for bankruptcy despite making $3 million in 2020 and more than $50 million in his career.

He was also sued in 2019 by The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas strip casino for an alleged $500,000 gambling debt which piled up during an NHL playoff series, CBS reported.

In 2018, Evander was the subject of a $6 million lawsuit filed by an ex-girlfriend who says he forced her to end two pregnancies and reneged on promises to pay for them.

The unidentified woman says she became pregnant by Evander three times in total, but that while the first abortion was agreed to by mutual consent, the second and third were imposed on her by the hockey player.

The lawsuit says that Evander promised to pay her $3 million to end the third pregnancy while they were still a couple.

The woman claims that she started dating Evander in 2015, the year he switched from the Winnipeg Jets to the Buffalo Sabres. He joined San Jose in February of this 2018.

The $6 million sum named in the lawsuit is made up of the $3 million she claims she was promised for the abortion procedure, plus an additional $3 million for 'intentional infliction of emotional distress'.

On Saturday night, the NHL said in a statement it was made away of the posts. 'The integrity of our game is paramount and the League takes these allegations very seriously''We intend to conduct a full investigation and will have no further comment at this time,' the NHL tweeted

Evander told reporters that the lawsuit was 'a bunch of B.S', calling the allegations 'baseless' and a 'dead issue.'

'Anybody can say anything they want nowadays,' he said. 'I'm not really going to talk about it further, because it's not going to help me, it's not going to do any good.'

In 2016, a 21-year-old Buffalo woman sued the then-Sabres forward, saying he seriously injured her in the hotel room where he lives.

Rachel Kuechle claimed that Evander met her in a bar, invited her to what he said was a party and then attacked her, causing cuts and bleeding that required multiple surgeries.

Without providing details of how she was injured, her lawyers said Kuechle suffered 'serious emotional trauma' and 'serious, permanent and painful personal injuries.'

Evander's actions are described as 'unwanted, unconsented to, violent and offensive in nature physical battery,' according to court papers.

Evander had been cleared in March of 2016 of any criminal charges after authorities investigated the December 27, 2015 encounter initially described as a possible sexual assault.

According to the lawsuit, Kuechle met Kane at the Encore Restaurant and Bar on the evening of December 26 and Evander bought her drinks before inviting her back to his room on what her lawyers describe as a 'false pretext' of a party.

The pair were taken to the Buffalo Marriott Harborcenter by Evander's driver, court papers say.

Once in the room, Evander 'engaged in extreme and outrageous conduct' toward Kuechle, the suit said.

Evander pleaded not guilty to non-criminal harassment, disorderly conduct and trespass stemming from an unrelated incident at a bar on June 24, 2016.

In that case, Evander is accused of grabbing three women inside Bottoms Up, a Buffalo nightclub. A male bar employee said he also had a run-in with the NHL player.

Paul Cambria, Evander's lawyer, said those allegations were 'extremely exaggerated' and his client 'denies strenuously any wrongdoing.'

Evander, 29, recorded 49 points (22 goals, 27 assists) in 56 games and an average of 20 minutes, 12 seconds of time on ice. His plus-minus rating for the season was minus-1.

His career plus-minus rating is minus-67 in 769 games with the Atlanta Thrashers/Winnipeg Jets, Buffalo Sabres and Sharks.

He has 264 goals and 242 assists (506 points) in 12 seasons.
