'Not all heroes wear capes': Moment Philadelphia 76ers Andre Drummond dives into pool to save his son's life after the two-year-old fell off the edge

Philadelphia 76ers center Andre Drummond has shares video of the moment he sprang into action to save his two-year-old son when the toddler fell into a swimming pool. 

Drummond, 28, posted surveillance footage of the incident to Twitter Thursday, in which his son, Deon, is seen sitting with two adults around an outdoor, below-ground pool. 

Suddenly, the toddler slides off the pool edge and falls face-first into the water as a woman sitting nearby shrieks, 'Deon, no!'

Drummond posted video of the incident on Twitter, and assured everyone that there were injuries

In less than a second from the moment the boy falls in, Drummond's six-foot-ten, 280-pound frame springs from off camera, and dives in fully clothed after him.

He grabs Deon, and hands him off to another adult nearby, before slowly making his way out himself.   

'He's smiling,' the woman reports of the toddler, who is then seen restrained as he tries to run back toward the pool. 

The younger Drummond soon gets a stern reprimand. 

'NOT ALL HEROS WEAR CAPES,' the athlete captioned the video.

Fans offered a variety of reactions to the close call on social media.

'Look at Drummond man saving the children,' wrote one.  

'That fathers instinct kicked in so quick love it,' posted another.

'Thank God y’all were right there!!' one Twitter user wrote.

Others expressed horror at how close a call it was, and noted that it should serve as a learning experience for how quickly tragedy can strike when small children and water is involved

Others, however, expressed alarm that the boy wasn't more closely attended, and noted that when water and young children are involved, tragedy can strike in seconds. 

'Glad he is ok, but this is lesson for all parents. Teaching your children to swim is a life saving skill and close supervision is a must!' wrote one. 

'Something terrible can happen so quick and so easily even if you’re right there in the same room…. All it takes is one second.,' tweeted another. 'Good PSA for other parents to see as a reminder.'

Still others defended the incident as a simple accident.

Drummond signed to the 76ers earlier this month, after playing just 21 games for the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this year.

Before that, he played in 2020 for the Cleveland Cavaliers. 

He had spent the bulk of his career playing for the Detroit Pistons, where he got his start in the NBA in 2012. 

He averaged 14.9 points and 12 rebounds last season for the Lakers and Cavaliers.
