Lucky pilot escapes with minor injuries after crashing his helicopter on suburban street just moments after taking off from Chicago Executive Airport
A pilot was lucky to escape with only minor injuries after he crashed his helicopter onto a suburban street just moments after taking off from Chicago Executive Airport on Wednesday morning.
The man - who has not been named by officials - was only in the air for a short time before the crash happened at the intersection between Apple Drive and North Milwaukee Avenue in Prospect Heights at around 6.40am.
The aircraft struck a light pole on its way down, and ended up on its side on the road with its tail bent.

The pilot was reported speaking to the airport before the incident occurred, according to Fox32. He remained on the scene until emergency services arrived.
The FAA reported that the helicopter was a Robinson R44 model and the pilot was alone during the crash.
The helicopter bore the markings of Crown Point Repair in Morton Grove - a semi truck and trailer repair shop.
Local police and fire departments responded to reports of the crash where they found the pilot in stable condition and was taken to Glenbrook Hospital with minor injuries
Traffic on Milwaukee Avenue was halted while the incident was being investigated
The aircraft - which bears the tail number N4043B - is registered to Crown Point Helicopters LLC.
The police said they received the call around the time of the crash and transported the pilot to Glenbrook Hospital.
Both the Prospect Heights Fire Protection Department and the Wheeling Fire Department were on the scene.
It is also being investigated by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board.

Footage from the scene showed the debris from the crash as well as the bent tail of the helicopter.
The Chicago Executive Airport was closed until around 9am and traffic on Milwaukee Avenue was halted while the incident was being investigated.
