The Project's Peter Helliar and Waleed Aly admit they 'were not sure what to make' of the #Free Britney Spears movement... but all that's changed after the singer spoke out against her conservatorship in court

Peter Helliar and Waleed Aly admitted they didn't believe the movement to free Britney Spears from her conservatorship during Thursday's episode of The Project.

The hosts were discussing the years-long fan-led movement after Britney, 39, spoke out against her conservatorship in a Los Angeles court on Wednesday.

'It's fascinating. Obviously we've heard the #FreeBritney thing bubble along for a bit,' explained Waleed, 42.

'But we've never had any flesh on the bones, and it feels like today is the first hint of that.'

Added Pete, 46: 'If you're not paying attention to this, and a lot of us have not been, not really, you were not sure what to make of the #FreeBritney movement.'

Waleed justified his scepticism by claiming that 'a lot of fan movements are nuts', but added that 'this is a different thing'.

The Toxic singer condemned the conservatorship, which has seen her father, Jamie, control her life and finances.

'This conservatorship is doing me way more harm than good. I deserve to have a life,' she said, as stated in documents obtained by The New York Times.

'I feel ganged up on. I feel bullied and I feel left out and alone... In California, the only similar thing to this is called sex trafficking, making anyone work against their will, taking all their possessions away, credit card, cash, phone, passport.'

Britney branded the conservatorship 'abusive' and said she feels like she's been living 'in a rehab program'.

One of the most sensational revelations from the hearing was that she's had a birth control device implanted in her body that she's not allowed to remove.

'I want to have the real deal, I want to get married and have a baby. I was told in the conservatorship I'm not allowed to get married or have a baby,' she added.

Elsewhere in her testimonial, Britney claimed she felt forced into her Las Vegas residency and was relieved when it ended.

'I'm not here to be anyone's slave. I can say no to a dance move,' she added, after revealing she'd been forced to take lithium after disagreeing with part of her show's choreography.
