'Drunk' cruise ship passenger, 45, brawled with family at late-night buffet following row with his YouTuber girlfriend, 43, after she quizzed teenage boy about his sex life, court hears

An 'intoxicated' cruise ship passenger brawled with a family at a late-night buffet following a row with his girlfriend after she quizzed a young man about his sex life, a court heard.

Gregory Seddon, then 17, was onboard the P&O Royal Britannia with his friend and brother when the group were approached Tabatha Young, who was 'very intoxicated'.

He told Southampton Crown Court that the woman, 43, who interviews boxers on YouTube and has admitted to causing actual bodily harm, quizzed his friend about his sex life 'to prove that her boyfriend would get annoyed easily'.

A disagreement then erupted between Young and her partner Paul Evans, 45, with the pair both being described as 'intoxicated' and 'wobbly'.

Young and Evans were later involved in a drunken brawl inside a late night buffet, sparked when a family asked Evans to stop swearing at their daughter as they dined.

The defendant is accused of assaulting Justin Gardner, his nurse wife Sarah and daughter Alice, 21, after he was overheard saying he wanted to 's***' and 'f***' in front of their 16-year-old daughter Amelia.

Stuart Bishop, 46, was dining with his wife Donna, 48, and their daughter Cerys, 16, when the fight took place shortly after the ship left Bergen, Norway, in July 2019.

Mr Bishop told the court he regretted not intervening sooner after watching in horror as Evans kicked 21-year-old Alice 'as if he were taking a rugby penalty'.

Evans is accused of one count of robbery and three counts of actual bodily harm following the extraordinary scenes on the 16th floor of the cruise ship.

The Gardners had attended a family disco with their two daughters when they retired to the buffet, but became upset by language coming from the neighbouring table.

Ahead of the fight, Mr and Mrs Bishop were asked by Alice whether they were 'uncomfortable' with the swearing from Evans' table, the court heard.

Jurors were told Alice then went over to the 'gobby and intoxicated' group to ask them to stop using foul language as they were making others 'uncomfortable'.

An argument ensued between Evans and Alice, after which Young 'flew' at her and the pair started fighting, the court heard.

Mr Seddon, now 19, said: 'Tabatha was fighting Ms . I saw Evans punch Mr . Then the father fought back.

'I saw Evans kick Mr on the floor a lot.

'It was quite brutal - he was really going for it. Evans was kicking the father in the face. He didn't need to, that was not called for.'

He said he did not witness the entire fight as he had gone to tend to a 10-year-old girl who was crying as a result of the debacle during the early hours of July 26, 2019.

But Mr Bishop told the court how he saw Young attack Mrs Gardner, a 48-year-old nurse from Tonbridge, Kent.

The court was told he heard Alice say 'get off my mum' to Young before she was pushed to the ground and kicked by Evans 'as if he was taking a penalty'.

Mr Bishop, from Cardiff, said: 'I categorically, 100 per cent saw him kick her. took a few steps forward like a run up as if he was taking a penalty.

'My regret is I did not do more at the time and react quicker. No human being should be kicked in that way. I thought he was going to kill someone to be honest with you.'

Mrs Bishop, who told the court she had tried to tell Evans to 'calm down', said: 'I thought, "How can you do something like that to a young girl".

'That will stay with me for the rest of my life because I have never seen someone kicked like that. No woman should be kicked like that.

'I never ever want to see that again. It was as if he was kicking a football. Ms was no threat to him.'

The court heard Evans rugby tackled Mrs Gardner when she began filming him on a mobile phone.

He then allegedly snatched the mobile phone from her and hurled it overboard.

Evans and Young were taken into custody once the ship docked at Southampton.

Evans, of Clayhall, Essex, denies three counts of actual bodily harm and one count of robbery.

Young has pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm and is yet to be sentenced.

At the time of the brawl the ship was five days into a seven night tour of Norway's famous fjords.

A suite on the Britannia for this cruise currently costs from £1,429 per person.

The trial continues.
