Tampa Bay Rays star Randy Arozarena is arrested in Mexico after 'getting into a physical altercation with the mother and grandfather of his daughter'
Tampa Bay Rays slugger Randy Arozarena has been arrested in Mexico's Yucatan state after a reported domestic violence incident involving the mother and grandfather of his young daughter.
The Yucatan state prosecutors' office confirmed Tuesday that Arozarena was detained 'for problems relating to his ex-partner.'
He has not been formally charged yet, but will be held for 48 hours, local authorities told the Daily Mail. Mexican law allows a two-day period for prosecutors to decide whether to bring charges. Normally suspects are held in jail pending that decision.
Various reports from Mexico claim Arozarena was either charged with violence against the mother of his daughter or his abduction of the young girl, but authorities have yet to reveal any specific accusations.
Arozarena has made no public comment and it was not clear if he had a lawyer yet.

'The only thing I know is he was hyper-sensitive about making sure that the child's needs were being taken care of,' his agent, Abel Guerra, told TampaBay.com. 'He was always sending money down there, and he was very involved in her life. I don't want to speculate about anything .'
According to local newspaper Yucatan Ahora, Arozarena arrived at the home with gifts for his daughter, but after fighting with the girl's grandfather, the Rays star allegedly attempted to leave with the one-year-old.
Neighbors reportedly heard the commotion and stopped Arozarena's car from leaving the area until police could respond to the call. Video of the incident on Tele Real RD shows someone appearing to be Arozarena with a young child in his arms having an argument with a group of men.
The Diaro de Yucatan reported that Arozarena has been charged with violence against a woman.
'When it comes to family issues there are always layers of complexity. Everything is perspective,' Guerra told TampaBay.com.

Guerra has not been in touch with Arozarena, but has reportedly spoken with family members.
'Hopefully everything clears itself up,' Guerra said. 'It's a horrible, unfortunate situation.'
Although the child's mother is described as Arozarena's wife in some reports, Guerra told TampaBay.com that he was never married to the woman.
Local media reported that Arozarena married a Colombian woman earlier this month in Merida, the Yucatan state capital. He has another child with his new wife, according to TampaBay.com.
Arozarena defected to Mexico from Cuba and lived in the country for several years while playing in the Mexican Northern League.
Tuesday's incident follows a productive playoff run for Arozarena, who won the Babe Ruth award for the Most Valuable Player in the postseason. The 25-year-old hit .377 with 10 homers and 14 RBIs in 20 postseason games for Tampa Bay.
